haven't heard of it before now, but I suspect Nightforce is realizing the huge market share they are missing out on, and that's why they are doing this. "less complex manufacturing process" I take to mean either they have improved their tech to make it more efficient and they are able to offer these at a lower price point, or they are cutting corners compared to their other lines( my guess is the latter). Cheap scopes are getting better and better and closing the gap between them and the "high class" offerings. spending that extra $100, $200, $1k you get a diminishing return. Yeah they are really good scopes, even exceptional, but you can get a lot for your money and spend half as much or even less than that.

That being said I would be interested to see how these new ones compare to their top of the line offerings, and against other cheaper class scopes.

In the world of glass, the higher the dollar, the better the glass, period.

I played in the photography world for awhile, have friends who are pros and let me tell you, scopes are cheap compared to lenses.

I haven't found budget glass yet, let me know when you do. I spent $900 on my "best" scope, IOR Valdada 10x40mm, and it looks amazing. But it's nothing like a NF or US Optics.

supposedly same glass as the NXS line. The erector system is not as ruggedized and there is no illumination on the low price leaders you might be seeing. Also you don't have the complex reticule choices and these are 2ns focal place scopes , which is easier to build. IMHO they ARE a deal .

I bought a Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50mm Front Focal recently. The Vortex is $170 cheaper (than the Nightforce), has very good glass, has a zero stop feature, has a fully illuminated reticle, is shorter and lighter, has a wider magnification range, has nicer adjustments, comes with a sunshade, and is available in mil or moa. I have a Nightforce NXS 3.5-15x50mm F1 which is a good scope but the PST offers great value for money. Nightforce states "All we cut were costs. Not corners." ..... hmmm.

digging in my gun junk room i found this state of the art iconic 1968(if i remember right) hunting scope it sold for 13.00 plus 4.00 for rings and has been mounted on no less than 10-15 rifle since then and has not fogged or lost adjustments and is clear as a bell. i think the last rifle it was mounted on was a rem 788 in .222. i,m going to take it to the antique roadshow to see how many thousand dollars it worth and then i,ll put it in the RHINO scope hall of fame or i may give it to young billy bob down the road to mount on his new italian carcano 6.5. eastbank.

Walkalong, one significant feature of that SHV is that it has more than 27 mils of vertical adjustment. My NXS F1 has a wopping 30 mils and with an 18 moa AI base on my AI AW in .308 Win I have almost 22 mils of comeup from a 100 yard zero … crazy! Contrast this to the Vortex scopes that I bought recently (Viper PST 4-16x50mm and 6-24x50mm). The 4-16 only has 20 mil vertical and for some reason the 6-24 has even less at 19 mil. I have to wonder how Nightforce can get 50% more vertical travel than Vortex inside the same 30mm tube. The point here is that I need canted AR15/AR308 mounts since I only have 5 mils vertical with the 4-16 mounted to POF's standard 0 moa rail. The bottom line is that the SHV or other Nightforce products might work better with our existing equipment.

Probably by reducing the windage window to increase vertical adjustment. Making a taller rectangle adjustment box rather than a shorter square one.

Interesting…. that makes sense. The NXS F1 has 21.8 mils of windage adjustment compared to 30 mils elevation. The Viper PST is advertised as having 21 mils for both (turns out vertical is actually 23.7 mils).

I need to make a correction regarding my comment on the Viper PST. After zeroing on the POF this afternoon at 100 yards, it has +9.0 mils comeup with 14.7 down. The Leupold Mark 4 that was on the rifle had only +5.0 mils with a 100 yard zero and 15.0 down. The Vortex is an upgrade over the Leupold on a 0 moa rail but I still plan on a 20 moa mount.
