Nikon Quality

I'm in the process of purchasing two or three scopes for huning rifles. I also reload and target shoot a lot. Does the Nikon Monarch E/Gold 2.5 x 10 side focus Nikoplex compare in overall clarity(late afternoon) and quality to a Leupold of equal value. My top end is $750 + or - $50
I'm open to other brands also.

Absolutely. The Nikon Monarch line compares very well to the high end Leupolds and other top-line manufacturers, IME.

I´m thinking get one 3-9 x40, is nikon prostaff a good one?

Think they have two product lines - one top end lenses, other more moderately priced made in the Phillipines.

Supposedly some quality issues with the lower end ones but they both carry a lifetime warranty.

I have the Prostaff rimfire, great scope . . . .

I can't speak for rifle scopes, but Nikon's camera's are excellent~!

The Monarch glass is very nice; probably a wee bit better than the equivilant priced Leupold. The Leupold, in my experience, will hold up better over time.

The Nikon Buckmasters is OK but not quite as nice as the Monarch in terms of glass; the ProStaff is their entry level scope. I'd rather buy a used Monarch than a new ProStaff.

What will you be putting the ProStaff on?

I have a ProStaff 4X on a .22 rifle and it works just fine. For an inexpensive plinker/hunting rifle the Nikon ProStaff does a fine job. Depending on the type of rifle, I'd even put one on a centerfire and not feel cheated.

For something a bit more powerfull or reaching out to longer distances, I'd believe there are better choices. Like rbernie said, a used or clearance priced Monarch.

It´s an old savage 110 in 270 win, i use it for coues white tail and mule deer, usually no more than 100 rounds a year. I have a simmons 3-9 x 32 on it, but I want something better.
