My quest for a reasonably-priced 50mm riflescope with the minimum number of compromises continues. My wants are 20 to 24X max mag, second focal plane, 1/10 mil increments, lighted recticle.

From this group I've learned that Vortex PST's are nearly as good as Leupold at half the price; the main difference seems to be a slight but noticeable decrease in brightness at higher magnification. I think I'd accept that at a price point of $750, versus about $1600 for the Leupold.

So, how about Nikon versus Vortex? I use Nikon cameras and lenses and believe them to be the best. Does this excellence apply to their scopes as well?

Back in for 1 more.

I am a big supporter of Nikon and have a few mounted at all times. That's being said, feature wise, Nikon does not have a comparison scope to the PST. Looking at 30mm tube, zero stop turrets, illumination, matched turret to reticle. They just aren't there yet.

Now, a big debate to wage, is the Burris XTR II VS. the PST. That would have me flipping a coin.

Never mind...

...did some looking for myself. It doesn't appear that Nikon makes a scope that will fit my needs, and they look to be a step below the Vortex in any event.

Hello Grand (that's quite a screen name you've got there)

I recently got interest in rifle target shooting. Am a member of a club with 100 and 200 yard ranges. hard to find longer ranges here in CT (probably limited to private land) but I'm looking. Interested in punching paper at fixed distances, as far as i can. Currently sticking to AR 5.56/223 platform; just purchased a Stag Arms 24" bull barrel upper and looking for a scope to put on it. Would like to go out to 500 yards at least when I find a place.
