Nipple wrench/capper for 1858 Rem?

I've just got a Uberti 1858 Remington revolver. I've had one chance to shoot it and loved it. I need some advice on type or brand for a couple of accessories. First off, can someone recommend a good nipple wrench? I need one with some back bone. The 'ears' on the Traditions t-handle wrench that I had bought sheared off when I tried to unscrew some of the nipples. (This is a brand new gun, so I don't suspect rust, or poor cleaning gumming it up).
Secondly, what kind of capper will work for putting caps on the nipples? The inline one I bought can't get into the recess around the nipple to place a cap on it.
Incidentally I've found #11 CCI caps to work best. I tried #10 and had numerous misfires, although the Uberti website recommended #10. Another justification why real men shouldn't read directions.
After I do some research on how to do it, I'll be posting a pic of my revolver in the 1858 club thread.

Many folks open up the nipple recesses on Remmies with a dremel tool.
Makes 'em much easier to cap.

If you want 100% reliable ignition, use Treso nipples and Remmington #10 caps.
Put the caps on & seat with a wooden dowel.
The possible shop carries Treso nips too.

My Ubertis like the Remington #10 caps on their original factory nipples. If I were to have ignition problems or cap jams I'd have swapped them out but so far and about 1000 rounds later they're doing fine.

That is a clever idea. The old T handle wrench I have is about 40 years old and is still a good one, but I do like what you did there. What size socket did you use there? I'm inspired! Think I'll build me one too! Thanks for the pic.

That's a 3/16ths socket and it fits all my .44 cal. revolvers. I'll have to make a smaller one for my Pocket Navy though.

I had the same question a couple of months ago. I ended up going with the idea that junkman suggested. It works like a charm; and was easily made with a Dremal tool. Kudos to junkman for the idea.

Thanks guys, but I didn't invent that idea. I learned it from a more experienced member here (denster) and just pass the idea along to whomever needs it. You do the same and that's how we maintain the knowledge base. Glad that it help you though.

Here's a pic of what some folks do to Remmie cylinders to make them easy to cap, even with a snail capper.
You can do it in a few minutes with a dremel tool.

Friend showed me some from his dad who had cut off and notched some extensions of various lengths.
No idea why-looks like a waste of an extension to me.
Possibly fits down into cylinder.
