Time for a new wrench, 1st time I used the wrench I got from Cabelas it started to spread, I'm either going to make one from a socket or buy the one that looks like a socket with its own wrench attached.
New 1858 and I figured I'd remove the nipples and put anti sieze on them.
They were very tight with a hint of rust on a couple.
Oh ready for the range.

Go to Lowes/Home Depot and pick up a role of Teflon plumbers tape...(make sure it's the PINK colored stuff). Two wraps around that nipple will solve those seizing problems. I've done this for years. For a really badly siezed
(un-taped) nipple, a few drops of Kroil and an overnight soak will make removal a snap. Good luck..

The ratchet wrench I purchased from the Possible shop does a fine job on pistols. But being made for revolvers, it's too shallow for rifle nipples.

Tom, I got a hard bolt, drilled a hole in the thread ene about 3/4 inches deep. It is the circumfrance of the nipple, then I cut a slot with a grinder the width of the sholders on the nipple, I then grind off the threads and use a wrench on the head or I drill another hole and place a bar making it a T. I may loose one but I havent broke one yet.

Remove the nipples from the cylinder and clean them inside (pipe cleaner) and out (brass brush) after each shooting session then spray the threads with Balistol prior to reinstalling. I've never had one freeze on me when using this procedure.

It's been a while since I've shot a walker; but IIRC, a standard revolver nipple wrench will fit, so the ratcheting one should fit fine.

I put Treso nipples in my Stainless ROA and was told to use high temp anti-seize. You know, that gray crap; that when it gets away from you makes it look like you had a 55 gallon drum of it and not just a little tube.

Anyway, just a quick dot of that on the nipple threads and it's all good.

Good idea a grade 8 bolt should work either a 1/4" or 5 /16" I'll give it a try.

TomADC thanks for the link for the ratchet wrench. Bought a shooter kit on Friday mostly for the nipple wrench, removed one coated it, reinsert, second one the Traditions brand wrench broke on the edges making it useless. Have one ordered now.

No problem, same problem I had new wrench 1st time use, going to do the same thing along with making a new one from a bolt as noted above.
