Nipple wrenches, I have been making these for years. I make them from deep sockets for use with a 1/4 socket wrench and regular sockets for use with nut drivers and allen wrenches. If you have a nipple pick from an old nipple wrench you can drill and tap a nut driver for it. IMG_0376.JPG

A friend of mine made several out of Grade 8 bolts-he hollowed out the bottom of the shaft, ground 'wings' into the side, and drilled the head through and put a short rod though it. I still have the one he gave me 25 years ago, none of the commercial ones I had lasted that long.

I bought a whole 1/4 drive deep socket set at Harbor Freight for the price I would have paid for a nipple wrench online or from Calelas. All I needed was that one socket.

A few minutes with a dremel tool and I have a solid long lasting nipple wrench.

Pocket here is a tip on buying sockets, I buy them at flea markets I get name brand scokets for 50 cents each at hardware stores they run around three dollars each. The dollar store sells a screwdriver with bits and sockets in the handle. It will make two rifle and two revolver nipple wrenches I have made range tools out of them a combo screwdriver nipple wrench as cheap as these sockets are they work really good and are much better than store-bought wrenches. I have never had one fail. I like the allen wrench handles the best for those I use Craftsmen sockets the square part of the socket is a little smaller. They are a tight fit I tap them on with a hammer and off with a punch. I do this a few times until I can pull the allen wrench by hand. After many years of installing floors has left me in chronic pain pills, steroids, and CBD helps a little. My knees are almost bone on bone I have two torn rotator cups and a laundry list of problems with my neck and back and I have a crazy nerve decease that has no cure. What keeps me going is working with my hands making things it takes my mind off the pain.

I just made one for experimenting and for pietta the 3/16ths socket was a perfect fit. Its the only extra i had sitting around that i found outside on a parking lot. What luck that it would be the same size ouside width as the pietta nipple collar. Thanks for the idea mike!

Your welcome, They are fun to make and a little quality time with files is always good. I carry a few extras in my range box to give away. Friday I found a scrap piece of 1/4 brass rod I made a wedge drift out of it. Draw filed it into shape and knurled the shank with a wood rasp and gave it a little polish job.
