NJ is trying to include mandatory insurance as part of a package of requirements for a carry permit.

NJ had almost no issuance of permits to private citizens, but after the USSC decision they felt they had to come up with a way to deter carry in public places. The restrictions are similar to NY, but add a few more hurtles to obtaining a permit.

A bill is being formulated that will require four character witnesses, all who will be required to be interviewed, insurance, and the permit fee increased from $2 to $200. The governor indicated he will sign it.

Here's an article about the proposed bill: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/13/nyregion/nj-gun-laws-insurance.html

Murphy is the one that stopped liability insurance being sold in NJ. Now only attorney fee coverage is available from firms like USLawShield. His attempts for raising permit fees to outrageous levels has been tried before and failed. We'll watch and see, but gun owners need to be more involved and in contact with legislators reporting their opposition to these bills.

From a governor who doubled down on the high cost of living in his state stating that those who have a issue with high taxes should perhaps look to live elsewhere it’s no surprise that a excessive tax (labeled as a fee), will be imposed on gun owners who wish to carry. Not to say that other states don’t embrace the opportunity to charge fee’s that essentially discourage a substantial part of the population from exercising their 2a rights. My own state average for class and permit is $200.00 which when coupled with the actual purchase price of a firearm makes the cost of defending oneself prohibitive to many with a real need.

Blow back from Bruen and Scotus not clearly defending the provisions for a shall issue carry regime. Clarence advocates will say they did, but they didn't.
