no 2 lcp // bought a kel tec

i decided not to wait for the ruger lcp, i went out and bought a kel tec p3at, and 450 rounds of ammo, and a spare clip. took it out to break it in today, it shot the first 100 perfectly. no problems what so ever. then i opened up a box of remingtons, and the trouble started. it would intermittently ftf. sometimes i had to load the cartridge 3 times before it would fire. after about 3 clips of this happening, i swithced back to magtech's, and the trouble disapeared. went back to remingtons, and it started all over again. it took a while, but i finally shot up the one open box of remingtons. the rest of them are going back to the store tomorrow! they must have a harder primer than the magtechs. anyway, i am pretty happy with it. 170 rounds without cleaning a brand new gun, and only ammo problems, even my hand feels fine. fairly accurate at close range, which is all anyone can ask with the little bit of sights these pocket pistols have. i wouldnt want to be on the other side of the muzzle @ 20 feet or less! i think its a keeper! now, has anybody shot many 380+p rounds through their p3at? i am curious about them, and how this little gun will/would handle them. by the way, i may buy the ruger for the wife when it comes in, if she likes shooting mine. then i can do a real side by side comparison.

Remove the firing pin & spring, and degrease it. I had the same problem with my PF9, but after cleaning the thick grease off the pin and relubing with CLP, no more trouble.

My P3 has never hiccupped with any ammo. It is a gen 1, though.

That wouldn't make me happy. I'd be nervous. You should try the remington ammo in another .380 and see if your gun's a stinker. If it is, take Kel-Tec up on their lifetime warranty.

kt is rated for +P, just not recommended as a steady diet....if you can afford to shoot it enough to wear it out, send it back for an overhaul.......gpr

when cleaning the gun, i took the firing pin out. all the edges on it were very sharp. i honed them smooth, but i think the real problem is in the hole. it is VERY rough. i could not get the spring out of it. so i blew it out with aresol gun cleaner and compressed air. then i lubed the heck out of it, but the pin still moves quite notchy. i am not willing to send the gun in, i just bought it, and i need it. maybe i will call kel tec and see how much a replacement slide is. maybe they will discount one for me. or do a buy it, when we get your old one, we will refund you.

There is a fix for the fp hole. If you're not a member of kel tec's owners group you need to be. The fix involves a sharp drill bit (no drilling) just move it in and out of the hole to remove the burrs. K/T's innards are more ugly than their outers.

nope, i took it back, no problem, and the end of one box was even opened! i had to take an in store credit, as i could not find my reciept.
