Yesterday, I attempted to go purchase an NAA Mini .22 with the folding grip/pocket holster at Sportsman's Warehouse. Due to to some issues, all of them mine, with my drivers license, I was unable to purchase the gun at that time. It's all documented here:

http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=89538

This morning, I got to the Department of Licensing to update my address. I walk out a few minutes later with my new tempory paper drivers license, and head to Sportsman's Warehouse, for take two.

Lo and behold, the same young man was working as had been the night before. First things first, I applogize to him. While I didn't blow up or anything the night before, I did storm off like a spoiled kid who's mom has said NO ICE CREAM.

Then I ask if I can use my paper Drivers License to buy a gun. After checking with the folks 'upstairs' he says yes. Cool. But...I can use a paper temporary Drivers License that it looks like came off a bubble jet printer, but I can use an actual drivers license with an old address. :banghead:

He asks if I'm still interested in the NAA Mini, and I fondle it a bit. Then, big mistake here...I ask to see the Blackhawk in .45LC I had handled the day before. Pretty gun. Nice Balance. A caliber I have been wanting to add to my collection. And $319 seems like such a nice price.

'I'll Take it!'

So, it takes about half an hour to do all the paperwork, but I am now the proud owner of a Ruger Blackhawk, blued with rosewood grips, 5.5 inch barrel, in .45LC.

I can't wait to go shoot it. Even the wife likes it. She admits it's heavy, but it just balances SOOOOOO nice. The only thing I am not totally pleased with in the front blade sight...it's just HUGE. :what:

The way I see it though, not having my drivers license up to date cosy me about $150...which is quite a fine for not updating my address.

Also, I don't know much about Beretta's, but while I was there, a gentleman was buying a stainless steel Model 92, with Crimson Trace Laser grips for $680. I know the laser grips themselves sell for like $300 plus, so that seems like a really good deal.

I just don't think I can us a Model 92 in CAS.

I have a Ruger Blackhawk (Bisley) with a 7.5" barrel in .45 Colt. I love the gun! It is a really fun plinker with 'cowboy' type loads, very accurate for target shooting and you can load it up to 'wild and harry' for hunting. Mine LOVES really heavy bullets with lots of H110 powder.

Enjoy your new purchase as you made a GOOD choice, even better that your wife likes it too!

Congratulations, I just got bit myself - I bought a Ruger Vacquero in .45 LC last Saturday, handsome in color case hardened. I picked it up today, will probably make it to the range tomorrow. :)

It was ‘on sale’ (my favorite words) @ Galyan’s marked down to $350. Problem is, now I need a cowboy rig (Bob Mernickle makes nice stuff, $250 & up), cowboy boots & hat ($400), and a lever gun also in .45 LC would be nice (Winchester ’84 - $600). I also figured out that .45 LC isn't the cheapest round around, so meybe i gotta learn about handloading. Then I’ll hafta join the Single Action Shooting Society and register my “cowboy name†($35? – How’s ‘Maddog Mikee’ or ‘Scorpion Kid’ sound?).

'Course, if I’m gonna be a gunslinger, I’ll havta have me a barroom floozie to hang out with. Lord knows, floozies are expensive, and since Mrs. Mike won’t let me have anymore love slaves, I guess I’ll have to get her to play along (smile when you say “floozie†-), which means a couple of floozie get-ups ($500) and she’ll prolly want a derringer for her garter ($200), and a bird's head Vac (short barreled seriff's model - $400?) for her purse. Of course we’ll need a buckboard and a couple of horses ($5,000?+), and a coach gun (12 ga. SxS, $350), to haul all this stuff + ammo around . . .

‘On sale’ guns sure do get expensive, eh?

I own both an NAA mini AND a .45lc Vaquero ... you DEFINATELY made the right choice!;)

Sidenote on the 45LC: has anybody been paying attention to the Speer Gold Dot 250 for the LC? It looks like they "supersized" that 135, they made it work at speeds between 850 - 900 just like the 135, big JHP cavity like the 135...'cept BIG :D.

I got this suspicion that that GD250 may turn out to be one of the best self defense loads ever made, period, end of discussion .

And that somebody CCWing a Ruger Bird's Head Vaq in 45LC with them suckers in it is maybe a lot better armed than most would suspect...or using those loads in Greg's new Blackhawk for home defense?

Priv8ter, congrats on your new BH .45lc! I'm sure you'll love it. I bought a .45 Colt yesterday too. Cep't I bought it in Smith's M25 Mountain Gun.

Jim, I have been checking out all the .45lc ammo, those GD look very interesting! I just haven't seen any numbers on them, have you?

That's the problem, no *independent* performance data.

But if you ever get a chance, just LOOK at 'em. You could drink out of that cavity :).

I have a feeling that IF they're hitting the 850fps mark, and it seems unlikely they wouldn't in any barrel of 4" or more, they're gonna put a way serious hurt on somebody.

Wow!

Those loads certainly might be worth doing some looking into...it's going to take some practice though before I would feel comfortable using a Single-Action revolver in place of my 1911, or even my wifes Firestorm .380 for home defence purposes.

Now, once I'm able to reach Eastwood type speed with follow-ups using my Blackhawk...then those loads might be a worthwhile investment.

Hit someone with a 250gr GD in .45LC you ain't gonna need no second shot.

Bad guy be in shock goin :what:, tell me your're God or Jesus, please! :D

Jim, these must be the ones you're talking about. That's one big ole cartridge and cavity!
