Here in South Texas the CLEOs will not sign for silenced pistols, but will sign for full-auto weapons. I was told by a dealer that to get around it, I would just need to form a corporation or LLC and buy the silenced pistol as a corporate/company asset. Does anyone know if this is true? If it is, do you know if the corporation would need to be created in the same state?

Thanks!

Yes it's true corporations don't need a CLEO signoff, and I don't believe it matters where you incorporate.

The big downside here is that you have to perpetually maintain the corporation (pay the fees). Corporate assets would have to be transferred to someone if it is disbanded, which kinda defeats the purpose if you can't get a signoff now.

And if you don't want to deal with the hassle of forming a corp., you can try a different CLEO. It could be the city cop. The sherrif. The local DA (I think). Get in touch with the nearest ATF branch and ask them who counts. And ask them who counts if none of them will sign off. They can appoint someone.

Thanks for the info guys. I was planning on forming a LLC in a few years anyway. I might just go a little ahead of schedule now. Now I just need to find a nice silenced Ruger .22 :)
