After reading the locked thread on "open carrying long guns" I believe that there is one thing that needs a little bit more consideration that folks don't seem to make. That question revolves around not whether it is legal or not to have the implement itself in public (aside from the potential breach of peace type charges that could follow), but another potential issue-- haveing a LOADED long gun in public. Many states have laws that prohibit carrying loaded long guns on public roads (and in other public non-hunting areas). Just another legal consideration that was not so much as uttered in the other thread.

Long guns aren't even considered firearms for the purposes of concealed or open carry in Pennsylvania, thus no restrictions on carrying them on foot. Can't have them in a vehicle, however, unless you're en route to a range or gunsmith.

Exactly - carry a loaded rifle thru public lands and the Game Warden will assume you're poaching, and treat you accordingly.

As always, it pays to know the law and where you are. (Hey - that rhymes... :) )

That must be one of those Texas rhymes...

I almost straped a rifle to my back and rode my motorcycle to the range last year. I started to think about what might happen and it just didn't seem worth it. I really don't know the legalities of it in Ohio...
