So I didn’t have luck tagging a deer this year during gun deer season. Does it expire or can I “reuse” it for next year’s hunt? Or if not next year the year after? Or does it expire whether or not you get a deer or not? I live in Oklahoma by the way.

Don't know about Oklahoma, but the Department of Fish and Game in Idaho posts hunting regulations on-line.;)

Gov would lose money if you could reuse a hunting license that didnt get filled. They cant have that. Buy another one next year and try again.

When I get skunked I look at it as spending $34 (Mn) to sit in my stand legally and watch nature.

No way to know for sure without checking your state regs. Here in Wisconsin gun season is over and we’re now in the muzzleloader week. After that there are up to 2 antlerless seasons left depending on which management unit your tags are for.

every state manages the harvest a bit differently, but I’ve never heard of one that let you carry-over tags to the following year.

As far as I know, with the exception of some specialty management tags, they do expire. They make a poor soup also, but do make interesting mementos in future years to remember your past hunts. In my home state of MN, management tags may be used in any season with the appropriate basic license.

As I said in several prior posts, here in Idaho only 1 in 3 hunters even get a deer, and that's in a good year. I can't imagine how big of a dent it would put in the Idaho Fish and Game Department's budget if 2 out of 3 deer hunters didn't have to buy a new tag the next year, or the next.o_O

Yes. Same for a fishing license. Or tabs for your vehicle. "I didnt fish or drive this year" doesn't fly. Pay to play the Gov decided. So I follow the rules for the most part.
