Went to Wal-Mart tonight and decided to check-out the ammo prices. To my dismay, both gun cases were empty. The manager told me the corporate story is that gun sales are slow, but the real story is they are crumbling under PC pressure.

This was the last Wal-Mart in town to carry firearms. Now Academy is basically the only game in town. So much for competition. Wal-Mart used to post the latest Academy sales ad, and then undercut the prices.

Academy has cheaper ammo now also!! For some rounds at least .. Wal-Mart here in East TX still have the guns! We'll see for how long though

Our Walmarts still have firearms. I guess they must still be buying them in this area. Of course there are far better places to get them.

I have never bought a gun from Wal-Mart or K-Mart. I did buy my first two handguns from the Bi-Rite Drug Store in Casper Wyoming. :D

Guns at Walmart

I am not trying to invoke controversy but Walmart may be telling the truth. A few points.

First, gun sales do seem to be lagging at our Walmart. I see the same pieces when I walk by them. Why this may be so, is a topic for another thread but just let me say this. The fire arms that Walmart stocked were entry level FA. Rifles (mostly) and shotguns that first gun owners bought..

Second, Walmart prides it's self on keeping items on the shelf moving. I have heard more than once that if something sits a few days longer than they want, they discount it, get rid of it, and don't buy anymore of it. That's part of the Walmart business plan.

Third, FA sales are slow at every store in my comunity. I think it's because of the gun bans, in large part. The feds banned a FA, The consumer ran out and purchased FA in anticipation of further bans. Now, FA enthusist is sitting on a closet full of surplus FA purchases.....I have several that are yet unfired.

4th, IMHO, there is a big difference in shooters and hunters. Some people may be both; some only one or the other. Hunter's seem to me, buy a rifle and/or a shotgun and hunt with it for years. They do not buy lots of FA. And let's face it......There are fewer of us every year.

Yes and no. Walmart is very much money driven. If the profit from firearms sales was high enough, they could ignore political pressure and the headaches involved in selling firearms. Unfortunately, their sales aren't high enough to warrant this.

Well, I guess this is good news for the small gunstores; more business for them since Wal-Mart won't sell the guns.
