OK, so this is all hearsay, admittedly, but I was wondering what other people's experiences were.

At work today, I overheard a conversation. Well, really, I only heard the word "gun" and of course it drew my attention. I asked what they were talking about, and one Co-worker 'Steve' (names changed to protect the ignorant) said "When you buy a gun at Wal-Mart, they immediately escort you out...supposedly some security issue or something. I also heard that Wal-Marts in [two local towns] are stopping selling guns anyway"

Now, I've read on some forums that Wal-Marts are generally hit-or-miss when it comes to OC. I emailed Wal-Mart Corporate asking for a clarification of Corporate policy, and their response was "You should contact the manager of your local Wal-Mart." Reeeeeeal big help, thanks.

I've personally never bought a gun from Wal-Mart, and don't plan to. In fact, the only reason I even stop by the sporting section of one of the local Wal-Marts is the guy who works there, great guy, even invited me shooting one day after having held like 3 conversations with me! But I digress.

So, anyway, what is everyone else's experience? I intend to call my Local WallyWorlds, but it's 5AM here and they're all closed. I'll let you all know what they say.

A search for Wal-Mart turns up 108 threads.

A good 1/3 or more of them talk in great detail about Wal-Mart's firearm policies and the recent changes. Combined with the other gun forums I read, I'd say that in the last year it's likely that I've read about 200 posts about this same subject.

Just fyi.

I have bought a couple guns from Wally-World over the years. Yes, the manager escorts you out of the store and then hands you the gun. I have no idea why, it makes no sense. Maybe they think you couldn't go out to your car, load the dang thing up, and come back in blazing? Most of the bozo's that work in the gun dept. are clueless as well. My local Wally World still sells guns, as do most of them in KY.

the last gun I purchased and the the only I was escorted out. When I asked why the manager told me it was policy to walk people out so that there was no chance for me to load the gun and start firing. I then proceeded to ask her how that little no gun sign was gonna stop anyone from buying a gun, getting escorted to the door, and loading and comming back in to shoot. She then told me that I had a point and she would see about getting the no gun sign removed. sadly to say it's still up:(

Go to Google and search "Wal-Mart shootings murder" and see how many matches you get. My guess is the headlines have something to do with that policy.
If they were my stores, the door greeters would be armed and there would be more than one.

The fact of the matter is that Walmart is neither pro or anti gun, they are simply pro bottom line. In my experience ,the caliber of individuals that I have encountered that work at Walmart, don't have the brains to form an opinion one way or another. I purchased a firearm once at Walmart many ,many, many moons ago , and will never again. The employees are not trained to fill out the forms and execute background check calls. It took 3 hours. The only thing that I get from their sporting goods dept is the occassional bottle of BreakFree or Hoppes9, or Shoot N C Targets, I will also occassionally buy rimfire ammo from them, but I reload centerfire.
I try to avoid Walmart like the plague, I have never experienced SERVICE there. I have always been treated like THEY were doing me a favor and not as a PATRON. I choose them when its convenient for ME, not the other way around. I get most of my shooting supplies from Cabelas or Midway, or Brownells. There is nothing that Walmart has that they dont, other than the occasional matter of convenience, they don't serve any purpose for me.
I don' think that Walmart has a specific pro or anti RKBA agenda, I think they will do what is compatible with their bottom line, be it politically correct or not. I am sure that if they have a store within a geographically hunting demographic, they will stock accordingly, and I am sure if they are in a bolshevised municipality like an inner city ghetto store, then they will also stock accordingly, Walmart is about Walmart and nothing else.

I have bought a few "shootin' irons" from Wal-Mart over the years (first one 1982, last one 2005), and ALWAYS got escorted to the front door. They WILL NOT sell ammo in the same transaction.

When I bought my .30-30 Marlin around 1990 from Wally, I had a hard time keeping up with the sporting goods guy. He almost ran to the front with it.

It really doesn't matter to me if I'm not provided a red carpet when I go to Wallyworld.....or that their staff might not include a PhD or two.....as long as they keep their prices low on the stuff I need.

And I agree fully, that the bottom line is the only concern Wallyworld has.

I kinda look at them like a huge vending machine.

This is always my favorite Walmart story.

About a year ago a coworker and I, still in uniform, went to Walmart after work and I bought a Remington 7400 that I had been looking at. After I paid for it the manager came and took the box and began to walk towards the front. I called after her and asked her what she was doing.

She told me she couldn't give me the firearm in the store.

I looked at my partner and then down at his sidearm and then down at my sidearm then back at her and told her she was insane.

She told me it was policy and carried to the the front. I pulled my police car up and let her put the hunting rifle next to some much nastier stuff I keep there. I shook my head and laughed and said, "Thanks, I guess."

Poor "Wal-Mart"

Having posted before; about Wal-Mart gun purchases.
This time I did a little more research.
Go to Wal-Marts online site: type in guns
scroll down, Remington Thompson and some more
pick your unit.
the last sentence on the right hand side "click"
print and take to the "Phd." at any Wal-Mart sporting goods counter worker.
Deal is done. Pay NO shipping
9-28-07 I just rechecked

I'm not smart enough to work, or be employed by Wal-Mart; they are smart enough to make 'general public' think they are not "into" guns.

Oh, Look! Another Wal*Mart Thread!

To be fair, I think I even have a Wal*Mart thread of my own somewhere here.

Normally, I'd probably let the thread run for a bit and see if we could score a perfect 100% in the Wally World Memes category, but then one of the other mods would get to close the thread, and then I'd be jealous.

And since I have to get to work, I can't risk having someone else claim the honor.

So I apologize if I'm a little selfish locking the thread before the whole range of topics is aired (I can't believe you guys missed "ammo prices" this time).

Gotta run.
