I recently ordered 2 NOE powder through expanders (.45acp & 9mm) Since I load coated bullets almost exclusively. They are “M-type” expanders and would make setting the bullets on the case after flaring much
easier.

This after getting a NOE .224 expander plug for my .22TCM loading. See pics below.

Bullet placed on M-flared case. Will be seated almost to beginning of ogive curve—plenty of neck tension.

The NOE die takes care of wobbly bullet placement before raising the case into the seating die. I’ll put a photo of the .45acp expander below.

I’m posting to let everyone know of the potential issue with the older Lee pistol PTX dies being shorter than new production dies. The older dies are too short to fit the NOE internals and allow the Lee AutoDrum to be screwed in place. It’s more of an aggravation than anything else, but I can remedy it by ordering a couple of Lee 90668 short charging dies to use with the NOE expanders.

Al at NOE was great helping me get this sorted out.

Looks good. The Other Brand I bought has insufficient step for a coated bullet.
NOE has options on the order page to customize the flare for bullet size. I measured several bullets with a micrometer to be sure I got it right.

This .45acp expander is .454x.450
for a .452” measured diameter coated bullet.
.450” initial expander plug size with a .454” step.

Lee short charging dies shipped from Titan Reloading today, due Monday!

Just received the dies and had enough time to install the .45acp kit in the short charging die. Everything fit and adjusted easily to a nice “m-type” flare. I’ll post pics after I set up the 9mm kit in a new die. :)
