Has any US law been broken if the following happens:

A non US citizen from an allied country (friendly to US) visits relatives in the US and buys an interceptor type (current issue to the sandbox) set of body armor. 1 week later, he leaves the US via an international flight for his home country.

Will this guy be subjected to a body search upon his departure processing at the airport?

Are US body armor retailers willing to sell to non US citizens?

If this enquiry sounds strange.....:uhoh:I'm like to clarify that I am NOT a terrorist looking for protection for a planned shootout. I'm simply a foreign army reservist who's army WON'T issue protective vests to support troops. I work at a live fire range during reserve call ups and would like "insurance" against ricochet projectiles and stray rounds from cross eyed troops doing their once/yr annual qualifications.

I believe that body armor designed for military use is covered by ITAR, and you might need an export permit. You can find more information here.

Trying to wear body armor through security for an international flight is almost certain to get you the probe treatement.

Have you considered buying it here and mailing it to yourself? It may still require you to jump through some hoops, but I'm sure it'd be less of a hassle than getting on an international flight wearing armor.

Thats my recolection too, that ceratin body armor is like certain night vision items, and are unexporatable to certain people, countries, and/or entities, or exportable only with an approved export form that covers those "more regulated" items (as in, likely not the same form as for exporting "non-regulated" items).Tried to find where I got thid ide from, but failed to find anything concrete with regards to body armor specifically. (the NVIS restiction is fairly easy to find though, so maybe that indictaes I'm wrong here....)

I believe that the soft body armor, Interceptor vest itself, is not a controlled item, but the plates are ABSOLUTELY controlled and cannot be exported unless you have MEGA paperwork and approval (the sort of stuff that neither you nor I, nor any random citizen would ever get).

If you want to know about the body armor, consult a US embassy/consulate, the Department of Defense, some competent attorney, or the office of the Attorney General... One of them ought to know.

I absolutely recommend AGAINST trying to wear body armor onto an international flight, or any flight for that matter. If you are going to get this armor, mail it back to yourself or check it in.

Still, I would wager you'll run into problems trying to buy it, especially if it is the actual US military issue rather than a clone/copy of the armor. You might get into issues with it being stolen government property.

BE VERY CAREFUL!
