I was at a gun shop in pa today, and found some surplus 7.62x54r for my nagant. Now the box was natural grey paper color, and the wrapper around the box was light blue. The writing was in russian, but the tag was marked Non corrosive, has anyone seen this ammo before, it was just FMJ. But anyway, i meant to buy a box to get it to translate but didnt, and i was wondering if anyones seen this stuff before and is it truley non corrosive.

If the writing was russian then it probably is Russian. The only stuff that I know of that came in a grey box was some Czech stuff. Pretty much I assume all stuff coming out of eastern europe / russia is corrosive and clean my rifle accordingly.

If it's Eastern European surplus ammo, it's corrosive. Some sellers advertize ammo as "mildly corrosive," which is akin to saying "mildly dead."

If you want non-corrosive 7.62x54R, buy new production Wolf, Barnaul, or Sellier & Bellot.
