Last nite while thinking about the sticky cylinder pin on my Uberti 1858 Remington, I recalled working on a farm on the East coast of Scotland many years ago. For those not into agriculture, farmers routinely rotate what they plant in fields, and one of the crops in the rotation is called Rape, grown for the Rapeseed and the oil it produces(beautiful to see in the fields with a small yellow flower). I had never heard of it and the farmer told me it was used as a light machine oil. One of those useless facts that you store in some recess of your brain.
So as I tossed and turned thinking about how I am going to clean the pin and remove the 3n1 type lubricant after reading all the previous threads here in THR, I recalled that long ago comment, and today I did a little search. Wow, what a find.. see the following link http://www.karinya.com/canola.htm
Seems that replacing the 3 n 1 on the Remington with Rapeoil might not only be good for my weapon, but also good for my health..
You'll have to go read the thread...
PS. I'm still gonna pick up some Bore butter, and Crisco.
