Several weeks ago, I bought my 6" 657 a Sidearmor OWB modular holster. It's a great piece of Kydex, if you go for that kind of thing (which I do). Protects the gun staunchly, rides comfortably, and is highly adjustable. I recommend it.

The one thing I sort of regretted was that I wouldn't be able to use this holster with an optic on the gun--which I had been toying with the idea of putting a red-dot on. Then, last week, a local gunshop had a going-out-of business sale, and I happened across--and snatched up--a weaver S&W scope mount for $3.50. When I got it home, I realized I could do what I've now done; by mounting the rail so that it overhangs the back of the gun (yes, the hammer still clears it and can be cocked easily), the weaver rail plus Ultradot red-dot fit exactly into the open slot on top of the Sidearmor holster. I don't know if it's designed to do this, but clearance is about zero, and the fit is precise. The mount is solid (loc-tited the screws) and shows no sign of being any less solid after maybe 200 rds yesterday.

The whole get-up rides perfectly comfortably on either the strong side or cross-draw; and using a red-dot on the .41 mag lets me begin to tap the range and capability of this cartridge and revolver. Yesterday, I practiced 50 yard offhand groups--and while I won't embarrass myself by reporting them exactly, they are much, much tighter than previously (i.e., with iron). Since I think of this as a gun primarily for long range & silhouette shooting, and someday as a hunter, I feel this is a great set-up for me, and just wanted to let anyone else who was interested know that, A) the Sidearmor holster is a fine piece of equipment, and B) with this configuration, at least, it allows the use of an optic.

I was thinkin' maybe a little more along the lines so soulfully expressed by Steve Miller:

I'm a space cowboy
Bet you weren't ready for that
I'm a space cowboy
I'm sure you know where it's at
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

:D :D :D

Now you need the exact same set up for the other side. If you you are going to ccw you will need a very , very large shirt. Seriously though, it is a nice set up!!! Enjoy...

Nice goin.
Looks like the holster, gun and scope all made for each other.

Only wonderment here is how well those tiny mount screws will hold up with that much leverage from the overhang.

Good show.
