Watching a D-Day special tonight made me realize that June 6 2004, the 60th anniversary of the Invasion of Europe, would fall on Sunday, and therefore I should try to fire my M1 that day in remembrance. She was built in March of 1942 and might well have been there.

I won't know until the last minute if I can actually make it, so I don't know when I will arrive. But if you go, keep an eye out for a goofball with an M1 and a beard. If it's toward the end of the day, listen for someone whining about how his shoulder hurts.

Well, the ol' M1 is cleaned up and back in the safe. Funny , but after 80 rounds of Lake City, when normally I would have been aching, today I wished that I had brought more. It just didn't hurt.

Anyway, my small symbolic gesture is complete. But let me say this: if you are a veteran, but most especially a veteran who waded ashore in France 60 years ago today, thank you.

I wish I could have been there with you buddy.
I never thought about taking my M1 out today. I wish I would have.
