Are the whitetails in Maine "eastern whitetails"? A buddy of mine killed one up there that field-dressed near 300 pounds. Over 250, anyway. That would have been during his Navy stint somewhere up in that general part of the world, back in the 1950s.

Art, they're northern Whitetails then :) I have seen a couple round here that would probably dress in the 250 range.... but never in a season when I could shoot em :(

Most of the deer I see or read about in south Georgia or in Florida tend to be smallish. Field-dressed around 140 and on down from there. But every now an then, somebody finds a seriously grown-up buck dressing out at 175 to 200.

Here in Middle TN a good'un is something over 150lbs. I know several who have got deer over 200. A buddy killed a 12pt in 91 that went about 205, one cousin got a 10pt that dressed over 220, another cousin got a 13pt that went 235. My best was a big bodied 6 (horrible little rack) that dressed 182lbs. Of course there are a lot more smaller deer.
