Ohwell..

Finally the police banned 500S&W here in Norway.. "Because it was too dangerous if it was to be misused"

Now this didnt surprise me at all, i saw this coming a long time ago because of the 50bmg ban a few years back which stated precisely the same thing + The worrying ability it had to shoot down planes..... You know, everything thats a fifty is HIGHLY dangerous.. Somehow everything below fifty cant be misused and is therefore harmless and legal..

BUT, they didnt stop there. To really get rid of all these supermagnum calibres they outlawed every handgun/revolver calibre over .455.. Thats right. The 480 Ruger/475 Wildey/50AE etc.. even the 50GI is now illegal to own here in Norway.

Im done trying to make sense of all these detail-bans as they are nothing other than political statements saying "Hey! where doing something to stop crime" when they actually do nothing except harassing law abiding citizens who have legally bought their guns. Do they really think that criminals join a gun club, take a mandatory safety course and serve their mandatory 6 months in that club just to pay the required tax fee and buy a gun registered in their own name to commit a crime with it?

Criminals dont care about laws, thats why their criminals. And the only thing these bans are doing is to make the rest of us loose respect of the Police.

On the bright side this ban doesnt affect blackpowder pistols and revolvers..

Please post your opinions and your support..

I agree with you 100%. The Scandanavian nations have a rich firearms heritage and its a shame to see this history and proficiency being squandered by gun grabbing tricksters who reserve their knee jerk reactions to magic numbers and so called "magnum" calibers. I am sure that they wont stop until the .22LR and also every air gun is also demonized
Of course you are 100% correct when you say that the focus should be criminal prosecution of the criminal who gets their weapons on the black market anyway. It seems that the only recourse these tricksters take is to punish the law obiding citizen who wishes to practice personal protection and the shooting sports.
I am sure these initiatives are not limited to Norway and are probably spreading to Sweden, Denmark, and Finland. Its a shame that these politicians are so ignorant. Education is the key. We must stay vigilant.

The government that has the power to give you everything you want has the power to take away everything you have.

I personally don't understand why the northern european nations get suckered into the various socialisms so easily so I can't really give you advice on reversing this tendency.

I would get a 460S&W magnum anyway. It shoots 454 casull, 45 LC, probably 410 shotshells as well. They make a 2.5" carry version now.

I'm sorry to hear that:( I always thought most Scandinavian countries had good gun laws. Where I live everything is still allowed, although I'm wondering when the gun grabbers will realize that and try to ban them here too:uhoh:

katastrofo:

I was in Trondheim last year - great city with lots of history. I got to witness the WW2 memorial ceremony at the cathedral, and saw the flowers left at the castle-fort-thing at the top of the hill(name escapes me) in remembrance of the executed resistance members. Very sobering.

I agree with you. It is a sad example: no matter how many hoops we jump through to be "reasonable," it is never enough.

What the heck are you worried about? I mean it's not like there's ever been a European liberal/facist dictator that disarmed his own people and then proceeded to commit mass genocide! Like THAT would ever happen...

Oh wait...nevermind.

Sorry Norway friend. What you are saying echoes all around the globe I guess. When the lunatics run the asylum ... Hello Brave New World.

:( now im actually starting to get ashamed.

especially seeing as my grand father is still young enough to tell me about the last invasion/occupation of our country :O

What was the first thing the Nazis did when they occupied Norway? Rounded up all firearms? And the current Quislings in power would make that easier for the next one, by making sure the thralls are either already disarmed, or all guns are easy to locate?
Yikes.

This is what happens when you continue to give ground believing that this next concession will be the last.

We learned that lesson the hard way, too(NFA, GCA, AWB '94, MA, CA, NJ, etc).

I wish we gun owners and shooters would get all together. Come move to California for a couple of years, and help us regain ground. Then we'll all move to Massachusetts for a couple of years and regain it. Then we'll move to New Jersey, Illinois, New York, Hawaii, and anywhere else that Freedom needs a leg up.

You know, Illinois outside of Chicago isn't all that bad. Yeah, we need CCW and Class 3 legalized, and it would be nice to get rid of FOID, but we don't have any semiautomatic or capacity bans, .50 cal bans, 1 gun a month crap, or "junk" (inexpensive) gun bans. The waiting period is short. Chicago keeps trying to hijack the state agenda, but they fail. Downstate Democrats actually are better allies than suburban Republicans.

Thanks for the answers and the support.

Like 40SW im sure this isnt the end. Call me pessimistic but im certain in the end theyre out to outlaw all handguns. I guess i just have to enjoy this hobby while it lasts. Im sure going to hang in there to the bitter end.

Regarding the 460S&W im not sure if they dont know about that calibre or they actually are stupid enough to believe it is .460 and therefore banned.. I guess the latter.. I sure as hell wont tell them anytime soon.

Lets just hope they realize the fact that if they keep harassing us we will eventually loose the respect and become criminals ourself. Like they did with their nationwide ban of lead in shotguns a few years back ; Ofcourse with no real documentation that lead in solid form really did polute the enviroment. Sweden had the same ban, they however did some research and found that it was unnecessary and allowed it again. Its all political again ofcourse. Lead.. Poison boohoo!.. Theres miles of cabling in the ground here in norway in lead pipes for shielding. You dont see them digging that up to save the enviroment;)

Sorry for the OT rant but im just so damn frustrated at the moment.. I just heard of the ban a few hours before i had to go to sleep yesterday, didnt sleep for 3 hours because i got so worked up about it:cuss:

It's Progressive Socialist Fascism on the march, as usual. Going on everywhere, including here in the United States.

Good luck. You're gonna need it... just as we are here Stateside.

Criminals dont care about laws, thats why their criminals.

Careful, one day you may become a criminal just for continuing to own firearms. Perhaps by that point though they will have effectively coaxed you into giving up most firearms effective against those who are tasked with taking the others.

Many of those firearms pose a risk to agents in various forms of armor. The powerful pistol rounds to most convenient soft body armor. The purpose is to ensure the power is not in the hands of the individual citizens, and the government can trump anyone, at any time, anywhere, both current criminals and those legislated into criminals later.

The high powered rifle rounds because those still pose a threat even to soldiers or a paramilitary team in hard body armor with trauma plates that attempt to raid a home defended by such.

They want to insure the cards they have on the table will always prevail against those of a citizen no matter what choices they wish to make as a government.

If Norway is going downhill, Sweden is way below!

Since we were such chickens during WW2 and abandoned Finland, Norway and Denmark (our closest friends and relatives to nazis and commies), we earned a lot of money after the war. Our industry was intact, and the workforce unhurt, but we lost our soul and became naive.

Political correctness and lack of common sense are legio these days. People are addicted to the feeling of safety and are afraid to take own initiative and to say what they think.

I hate to see what Sweden has become. More people should ignore the mainstream media and start to think...

... :Stabs police officer in the eye with a pencil: "You wanna ban pencils now because it's too dangerous if it is misused?!?!?!"

I'm not advocating that at all, for the record. Just imagining out loud. :banghead:

That's a shame. The Scandinavian countries and Switzerland are the only European countries that I have respect for.

It's sad to their govts following the trends of their Eurotrash neighbors to the south.

In the last year...

I have been in Colombia, Oman, Poland and now am sitting in a hotel in Sofia, Bulgaria. I have yet to talk to any local in these countries that thinks that the common folk have a right to own (let alone carry) any weapons. In all of these places but one I have been stopped on the street or in a car and asked for ID and what was I doing (papers please, kencarten bitte!) All the locals have agreed this is for my own safety. All have said be very careful walking around the city centers at night (better to stay in your hotel). That any European country is moving to remove guns and demonize gun owners is and has been a world wide trend, it is easy to do 'cause the people think it is a good idea. We in these small, tightly clustered brotherhoods have no voice that speaks loud enough to change the minds and hearts we need to change.
But keep the faith....

The ban people

If North America, including the red North, Canada, have said you can not buy one of those, whatever, but they have stopped short of coming to pick up the ones you own!

Banning hi capacity magazines, the purchase of same, I have dozens, why? Just because I can, must have 4 or so 33 round 9mm Glock magazines, never ever fired one!
The South, Florida anyway, have a lot of independent Citizens, and Police are Citizens too.

Roll call, Orlando Police, “OK Listen up, today you are all getting lists, gun owners, so you have to knock on doors, and confiscate all the guns you find!” Sure…

Full Auto weapons are not legal, but if you pay the $200.00 tax stamp you can have even those, you might as well drop the ammo down a hole in the ground, to me, but some people like them.

One thing we have, that not one other nation has, The Constitution, as long as we have that, we have our freedom.

I know spoken like a true patriot, I am a Brit, and proud of the Country of my Birth, but I LOVE my adopted Country, the US of A.

The tax stamp means they ARE legal.

I'm fearful for you. Does Norway have a 2nd Amendment-type clause to prevent government from banning firearms completely?

No, no such thing. The only nation in the world to have constitutional protection of firearms ownership is the United States of America.. The greatest nation in the world, that no Bush Junior or Clintonista can manage to ruin no matter what they do.

Remember, when you despair about gun control politicians, the rest of the world is about a hundred times worse off. I hope to move from this place some day..
