Norway arms few cops ... that may change

OSLO, Norway - When a man dressed in a police uniform began slaughtering young people at a Norwegian summer camp last week, one of the first to be killed was a real police officer named Trond Berntsen, who for years had worked in security at the camp.

Whether Berntsen tried to stop the gunman is being debated. But facing a man carrying guns and ample ammunition, there was little he could do. Like most other police officers here, he had no weapon.

It is hard to respect the uniform when they are not armed. The british police come to mind as just ridiculous.

Yep, gun restriction gone awry. Its sad that my cousins there learned NOTHING from the period of '40 to '45. I guess now folks will not be as quick to find other alternatives to army service when they graduate their equivalent of high school.

I don't believe there were any real restrictions on guns aside from the difficulty of getting ammo commercially before '39. That does not seem to have worked at this point. It also seems that there are other Fascist organizations throughout Europe that are getting traction after what this...person did.

I could not imagine being a cop without a firearm.
i couldnt imagine being a CITIZEN with out a firearm

i think the citizens of Norway should make a deal.....the police can carry firearms just as soon as the people can.
