But good friends.This is kind of gun related,if it gets closed that's cool.But I just had to say this.
I've been recovering from surgery for about 5 weeks now,and it amazed me howsupportive my IDPA buddies are.Emails,calls and visits,gun books and magazines.I was never a joiner of any kind of clubs,so maybe this is normal.But I appreciate all of their support.
Now here's my question.....how do I show my gratitude?I was thinking something gun related(of course I'm at 1/2 pay while I'm out)..or maybe a cook out when I'm fully recovered.....
Anyway,this just proves my point that shooters are GOOD people.
As an example,I did go to IDPA practice the other night just to hang out and keep score.There was a stage where you were seated..so I thought"hey I could shoot this one."Not only did the RO encourage it,all the guys were jumping at the chance fore me to use their gun!Somehow I doubt a golfer would let just anyone use their expensive clubs.....I had guys offering me thier $1000 kimbers...of course I went with the new guy's Glock 26.....and I did pretty good at the stage for not having shot in a month.....anyway,let's hear your stories of gun-friends and how they've come through..maybe if we get enough,it may be worth an article in a gun mag,for any of you writers who frequent this site......thanks

Good to hear that humanity is alive and well somewhere on this earth. Why not invite everyone over for a barbeque or maybe bring pizzas to the next match? At the very least, send a thank you card.

Shooters are cool ....

I’ve been a little short on money lately. I went to the range with my friend Bob as usual, and I only had about 400 rounds of 9mm for the day. I tried to be conservative and make it last ( several hours ) but ended up out of ammo a couple hours before we had planed to leave.

As soon as Bob noticed what was up, he hands me a new box of 100 rounds. As soon as I loaded up and started shooting again, he slips another box over to me. When I tried to pay him for the ammo later …. He says “keep it, save it to buy some more ammo so we can go shooting again soon.” Totally cool guy !

Same guy has 3 Ruger 10/22’s …. He buys a new one with bull barrel and tells me he’s “giving” me one of the others. He says “ what am I going to do with 4 of them” ….

Visit with them at the range, and give each an individual handshake, and a sincere "thank you." That's all that's needed! They didn't support you for a reward, they supported you because they're your friends.

You'll have your chance to help (those guys or others) later on. For now, honor them with a sincere "Thank you." An attempt to 'repay' a gift freely given cheapens the gift.

I've been unemployed since the beginning of the year (though I have a start date for a new job of the 23rd) - I've had the chance to learn what I just said.

I hope you recover as quickly as possible.

The Shooting Sports

Some of the nicest gentlemen and ladies I've met were on the ranges. The people are always willing to let you try out their favorite toys (me included), and happy that someone admired their toys. I've got a couple that are in the ~$2K range and things that they may never see again or be able to afford.

I wish you well on your recovery, but I suspect your fellow shooters will be happy enough just to see you back at the range. If you want to treat them for their kindness, pick up a couple of pizzas and take them to the range. I don't know of anyone who doesn't enjoy a slice of pizza.
