Folks,

Over the years, I have collected enough firearms to last several generations. While I still enjoy owning and shooting firearms, I haven't felt the need or great desire to purchase any more firearms at all. I have been focusing on shooting, customizing or modifying my current guns and in acquiring ammunition whenever I find a good deal.

Sure, I still see new guns that I like, but I feel no urgency to buy any of them.

Anybody feel like me?

At 26, Im just getting started. :)

I have several guns hunting, EBR, and hand guns. Some bought, some given to me by my father.

But do you have any advice for a guy who has many purchase left in his future?

(Hope this doesnt highjack your thread):uhoh:

My latest urge is to buy a pocket pistol. Don't need it, but what's that got to do with anything!;)

I'm not seeing anything new that really interests me... not a big fan of the fugly squared off trigger guards and little internal parts made from stamped sheet metal... I thought the FNP-45 was kinda' neat.. but i have several 1911's... seems everything "new" out there is a re-hash of something that was done successfully 80 - 100 years ago.. and most of the new stuff is so expensive...

The new stuff is not so expensive, but I am now down to 3 1911's, 1 Bersa 380, and a Redhawk .44 magnum that I might sell but I am not in a real hurry to do.

I am more interested to get a really nice shoulder holster for the .44 for hiking and learn to smith the 1911's.

I thought I would like the polymer guns, and I do to certain extent, but not as a hobby but as a "well ... If i can't afford a metal gun ... " kinda situation.

Out of the 4 guns I own, I bought 2 of them in the past month!. I would love to add about a dozen more to my collection (just off the top of my head), but I'm forcing myself to hold off until one of my cars sells... Might pick up a cheap shotgun this week but that's it! I guess it's more financially driven than lack of interest... Unfortunately, until the financial situation gets better, it's just hoarding ammo for me! :(

In The Funk~!

With the economical situation the way it is, I too am currently through
buying firearms; at least for the time being. Like other's, I have enough
firearms too last several generations over, so I'm just going to enjoy what
I do have, unless a really stellar deal comes along~! ;) :D

I'd say I'm at the "trading" stage. I have all the bases covered, so I'm not adding to the overall number. But I am occasionally culling and acquiring to shape the collection more to my liking.

I think you are just at the start of a new trend. Overconsumption is dying. 50 years ago you would have a hard time finding someone who had or thought they needed more than a couple firearms, cars, Radios, etc, etc. The materialistic era is ending as our economy collapses. We too will be like our grandparents and only buy what is absoulutly necissary.

Yeah, got to admit, my rate of acquisition has slowed down and I've talked myself out of several recently that I've seen and wanted...

Sig P238; bad press about it, decided to let them work out the bugs first.
S&W 17; why do I need another 38 special revolver?
Beretta 96; don't want to have another caliber to stock.
Walther G22; don't want to have to convert it to left-handed, might lose the springs.

.....didn't used to be able to do that.

yes, I am tending to go longer and longer between buying. But I'll buy a few in spurts that I am searching for especially when circumstances are right. This last weekend I was traveling visiting family in another state and the hotel was next to a gun store. "BONUS!" I thought. Come to find out, they had just gotten in a Rem 870 with ghost rings that I could not find anywhere near me. SNAP!

Well hopefully that will drive prices down and then I will take advantage. :)

;)

You sir do not have teenagers.

I just don't find anything that I am interested in anymore. I still look to see if there are any good old wheelguns in the used section, but at this point I am thinking about selling a few things and just keep the guns that I really like. I may have one or two sent off to have some work done on them, but thankfully I don't have a burning desire to buy everything that I see.

The model 17 is a .22.

Had no pressing needs last year, that didn't stop me for buying a few things.

Always in the market for certain Colts and that would be the more likely next purchase if I found one in the appropriate condition and price. Scopes for existing rifles are higher priority. Shooting more is the next priority.

I am almost 70 and probably should start selling some instead of buying more, but I still get the rut for something different every once in a while (talking guns here, fellers ;)) I havent bought a NEW gun in many many years, I like the older stuff with walnut wood, real barrels and blue steel. Might have to buy another gun safe this spring. :)

I still have the desire, but the nearly uncontrollable urge doesn't seem to occur any more. You get enough experience and enough guns in the safes and the "gotta have its" just aren't there any more.

I'd rather get to know just a few of them reallllllllllly well instead.

Same here, except for the part about having enough experience.

I don't have the urge like I used to, either. In particular, I used to go nuts over military-type autoloaders and I have owned a bunch of them. Right now, these boards are burning up in often angry debate about XCR's and SCAR's and ACR's and piston AR's. For my part, I don't shoot any of the ones I already own enough to get obsessive and angry over some marginal increases in performance that the newer designs may possibly offer. Some of the new bullpup designs catch my eye, but I know that if I buy one, it'll be just more money tied up in a gun I don't shoot.
I still buy the occasional accessory or upgrade for a gun I do have, but the only gun I have any intention of purchasing in the future is the Keltec .22 magnum autoloading pistol. Even that will wait 'til I see some reviews of it at places like THR.

I feel somewhat the same, except for that ever cherished Spanish 1895 I wish to someday own. Besides that, all I can say I am now interested in is the reloading ammo and getting to the point where I can break down the firearms I do presently own and being able to put them back together w/o the smithy.

A buddy of mine has a friend that says the same thing. He also has more firearms than he can count.

We don't believe him either.
