As-is it would be a good small game gun. Parders are really light, and thus too uncomfortable for most people to shoot for extended periods.

If the gun is over a certain serial number the frame can be fitted with additional barrels in other gauges (or as a muzzle loader) by the factory at nominal cost.

Well...It's a shotgun so I guess you should shoot with it:neener:

Seriously though, there's doves, grouse, phesants and other little creatures that you could shoot. Sometimes having a single-shot bird gun makes the hunt a lot more challenging (fun).

It would be good for small-game & small-bird hunting...maybe even for hunting those mysterious "Clays" :D  :D

I don't think I would want to shoot slugs or those super-duper triple-extra heavy 'Turkey' or 'Waterfowl' loads in it, though. Those light NEF "Pardner" single-shots become serious thumpers on both ends with heavy loads.

As zinj mentioned, Pardners in some serial number ranges can be re-barreled for other uses.

Thanks guys..... :)
I am kind of torn. Already have bird guns, and single shot is not my favorite way to go after grouse, lol.
I was thinking about getting the .50 cal barrel, but already have one of those as well.
Maybe a turkey barrel? Maybe tactical?

Great training tool as well.

New students, introduction to various platforms include the single shot.

While I prefer 20 ga and under gauges in single shot shotguns personally, I have used the 12 bore often.

Primer only hulls to introduce a new shooter.
If the gun fit them, unloaded, makes a great tool to practice correct mounting of gun to face repetitions.

Reload with popcorn hulls, just a light 7/8 oz target recipe, and pests such as pigeons are removed from barns, sheds and other areas, without damage to structure or equipment.

Hunting? Done lots of hunting with Single Shots.
Often times with kids, and they only have/ level of skill dictate a single shot, adults use single shots as well.
Lead by example, pass forward and the kids do not feel "less" using a single shot.

Lots of fun! Rabbit hunting, squirrel and Serious, like Dove hunting. Restricted to only Single Shots, and we have a 15 bird limit.
Adults get 15 shells, and we see who can fell the most doves with the fewest shells.
I've felled this 15 bird limit only using 13 shells from a 12bore single shot.
My personal best was 15 doves with 11 28ga shells from a single shot 28 ga.

Leave the gun alone, except for gun fit - recoil pad, moleskin on comb to raise comb...add sling swivels to use a sling for getting to and fro hunting areas...

My old 12 ga H&R Topper does Property Duty, I gave mine to some folks years ago. It seems to like riding on the John Deere...
Deer is one critter it keeps taking with slugs...

You could always give it to me - I can always use another shotgun!

Note- with a little practice you can reload and fire a single barrel gun like yours quite rapidly.

One more time...[tm]

Single shot shotguns have a proven history of being an effective tool, of being reliable, and being easy to maintain.

I go w-a-y back when folks bought these up, along with other simple firearms such as single shot .22 rifles, 38spl revolvers...etc.

These folks "hoarded" these single shot shotguns, along with ammunition and reloading components.

1. Folks had no idea what the gun laws where going to be- where they might end up.
Concerns about platform (semi being banned) magazine capacity, Repeating ( semi, pump, restricting to only 3 or only 2 shells being able to even be in a gun).

2. Emergencies.
Now I know, first hand, what passing out single shot shotguns means.
Tornado comes through, firearms and safes lost in tornado,or cannot get to where guns "where" being under rumble, rumble on fire....

I know about single shot shotguns, ammo, being really appreciated by Hurricane Victims that lost all , including guns.

3. Legal.

Now we do have members in other Countries that are members of THR.
Restrictive Firearm Laws :
- State/restrict a barrel of no shorter that 24".
-Magazine capacity
-Action types
-etc.

Here in the US with various Jurisdictions, we have restrictions.

There is one known defensive shotgun trainer that uses a Two Barrel Shotgun as his serious shotgun.
Easy to break down when traveling through certain Jurisdictions, Legal in Jurisdictions "not friendly" to gun owners, and less hassle being a two barrel gun than a bone stock repeating firearm.
Not a 'tactical shotgun, with 18.5" barrel, mag extension, etc, a bone stock repeating shotgun.

Single Shotgun are not fancy, maybe not always the best choice. FACT is , it is a shotgun proven, reliable, and affordable, meeting a LOT of needs and fits a LOT of niches including gun laws and needs.

Just food for thought...

Hurricane Folks did not talk down any single shot shotguns I assure you!!

Singles make great toting shotguns for when there's lots of walking and not much chance of much shooting.

Singles are shotguns for minimalists. Take anything away and you do not have a shotgun.

And for the child in all of us, they're fun.

No further justification needed....

Makes a good truck gun, survival gun too - light and easy to handle/carry.

Not expensive so a scratch or two won't make you shed tears.
