My mom always said nothing good happens after midnight. The best way to stay out of trouble if your a young women is not to stay out so late. In this case the women kept their wits about them and the brother saved the day.

In Houston if your counting we are up to 2 and 3 this year with concealed handgun holders being hero's twice and criminals three times.

The story today in the Houston Chronicle.

"The suspect forced the women to drive across the city and sexually assaulted them, Garza said. After being held captive for hours, one of the women tricked the suspect into going to an apartment complex in the 10300 block of Beltway 8, where her brother lives, under the guise of getting money.

Once she was outside of the car, the woman used a cell phone to call her brother. The brother, who has a concealed weapon permit, came out of his apartment and confronted the suspect with a gun, firing at him, Garza said.

In the meantime, the other woman managed to get out of the Mustang and escape, Garza said.

The suspect fled the apartment complex in the women's vehicle, but crashed near Wilson Road and Beltway 8 and was taken to Ben Taub Hospital. Garza said he was listed in critical condition."

prime doesn't cay

good thinking got them out of a situation that better thinking would have prevented.

is it me and/or the heat but i am getting fed up with the tax payers paying the med bills of criminals. without regard to how the case goes in court; the least the judge can do is sentence them to a chain gang to pay off their debt.at min wage $6 goes to their R&B, 4 to the hospital bill and any left over is saved for their release. the bigger their bill, the longer they will be unable to mess with the free people.

I don't agree with criminals not being allowed to get care for the sole reason of the fact that I don't like a doctor being allowed to violate his Hypocratic oath.

On the other hand I LOVE the idea of making a convict stay in until he pays off his medical debt. Kind of like washing dishes until you pay off your meal. That is an absolutely GREAT idea.

being in the medical field....when I am called to someone laying on the side of the road with bullet holes I dont care if they are the criminal or the victim. My job is to save them.

Good on the brother.

i have said nothing about withholding medical care---just making them pay their way

.....and after they pay off their hospital bill they can start on the damages they caused to peoples property and the court costs.

do this for 6 months and the crime rate will plummet.

do this for 10 years and most of the prisons will be empty.

This very thing is happening over and over again in Houston.
One only has to look at the Harris County Sheriffs department and Houston Police web sites press releases on a daily basis to get an idea just how very dangerous and violent the streets are whether it be day or night matters not.
My girl friend is somewhat nervous about my daily carrying now that I have aquired my CHL and just last night I let her view this months and last months press releases of the above mentioned departments web sites and it was an eye opener for her.
Those apartments where the guy took those two women are less than two miles from my front door.
Happy they took this guy off the street.
Unfortunately there seems to be an endless supply of his type ready to step up and offend against the rest of us.

That's great.
But, then don't send a bill.
I never understood how a medical professional can say, "I'll treat anyone who needs it, that will be $11,000, please."

Why am I expected to pay? Let the dirtbag pay.

I think this says more about the slant of the media (even though it is better in Houston than in most major cities) than it says about what CHL holders are doing.

So how does Jack-In-The-Box at 2:30 in the morning fit in? OP doesn't say and there's no link. I assume the girls were there and were kidnapped?

With the Economy anytime day or nite is dangerous nowdays. I gone to 24/7/365 carry.
I daily carry a good lockback, a pistol, pepperspray and a fully charged cell phone and my cane.

I found the link to the story:

HOUSTON — A man suspected of kidnapping two women from a Houston fast food restaurant and sexually assaulting them in a terrifying four-hour ordeal early Monday is in a hospital after he crashed their vehicle in a police chase, the sheriff's department said

So it apparently started at a Jack in the Box.

Delta does state law require you to use escalation of force i.e. use the pepper spray, then the cane, then your knife, before attempting to engage with a pistol?

Don't mean to hijack the thread just curious.

El Clerkino I am not Delta but I do carry a Texas CHL and the answer is no.

In this particular situation of the perp car jacking them, kidnapping them, and various news reports also state a sexual assault took place,as well as robbing them I cant imagine any laws requiring an individual to start a gradual building up effort before lethal force came into play.
All part of the Castle Law statutes as well as Texas rights on the use of deadly force laws.
Hence one of the victims brother came out pistol in hand and started engaging the offender with his pistol.

Per Texas law (specifically Texas Penal Code §9.32), the use of deadly force is presumed to be necessary if someone is attempting to force entrance to your home, your vehicle, or your place of business.

There was a demonstration of this last night in Harris County (story here)--an intoxicated man was beating on the door of the wrong house. The homeowner told him to get lost, but instead the man went around to the back door and tried to break in, so the homeowner shot him (the perp is expected to survive). The case will be referred to a grand jury as is SOP in Harris County for self-defense shootings, but unless the story is significantly different from what is being reported in the media there is no way he will be charged.

Sometimes pumpkin pie milkshakes happen at Jack in the Box at 2:30 AM. At that, gentlemen, is good. However, I'll stick to the drivethru. And I pity the fool who attempts to carjack me at the drivethru. 'Cause nothing is going to stand between me and a pumpkin pie milkshake.

One good thing happens at JIB between 2 and 2:30 am around these parts; undercover police officers issue a lot of DUIs. Them and taco bell... there was an article in the local paper about a year ago on it. Drunken fools come through the drive through and as soon as they pull through, the radio lights up and it's arrest time. Not a bad sting, IMHO.

Lets hope for the sake of the victims that the sexual assault doesn't kill them. In the age of STD's that kill this is a real threat.
Part of the reason you and yours should legally CC whenever possible. These are animals we are dealing with here.

I used to work midnight shifts when I was at college at Whataburger. Used to have a cop who would stay the night in the lobby with us. Sometimes he would stand off behind me so he could see into the vehicle at the drive thru but unless the driver of the car at the window looked back and around over his shoulder he couldnt see the cop.

Anyways...Ive seen that cop bust numerous drivers with beer cans in their cup holders (many of them drank from them while at the window!) but the best one was a 3am trip by 2 highschoolers who had brought along their best friend made of glass. This bulbous glass friend I'm sure is the culprit who gave these 2 guys the munchies. Needless to say they saw the cop and cooly tried to hide the bong out of view. It was too late, the cop walked around the outside of the building and met the kids as they pulled away from the window.

He didnt arrest them...no...he called their parents at 3am. Ever see a 16-17 year old get a spanking at 330 in the morning by his dad in the parking lot of a Whataburger? I did. (and this wasnt just any spanking, this dad went to town on his ass with a belt!)

I saw a post indicating drive-thrus are the safer option. I do believe all Gag-in-the-bags in the Houston area are drive-thru-only by 02:30 A.M. in the morning. The three in my patrol area close their dining rooms at night, and just run the drive-thru, so I believe these women WERE initially kidnapped in the drive-thru lane. A true fatal funnel, folks, especially as many have barriers that prevent easily leaving, and of course, many have plenty of hiding places near the speaker, where the customer must open his window to place the order. Be careful in drive-thru lanes!

Not just fast food, either; keep in mind the ATMs. I like the way my credit union keeps the shrubs and such well away from the ATM.
