I'm looking for a used 308, but folks don't seem to part with the low end models so I may resort to WalMart. They feature a nice Walnut stock Mossberg in .308 at the online catalog, but state one needs to go to a WalMart store that can sell rifles. Short of going down the phone list store by store do we have a THR member in the NoVa area that knows of a WalMart within 50 miles of Fairfax Co.?

Thanks

Fair Lakes... they even have ammo most of the time.
Of course if you are out there you might as well go to Dicks or something.

Personally though I'd head on down to Fredericksburg and hit the various places down there (wal-mart, gander mountain, etc)

There's one in Kingstowne, another off of Route 1. However, none of these sell firearms. There is one in Fredericksburg (barely in your radius) that does sell firearms. It's the Ferry Farms location.
If you want cheap, DON'T go to Gander Mountain. Their prices are WAY too high on stuff.
There are other options available: Gilbert's Small Arms range in Lorton has a nice used rifle section, Dawson's Small Arms in Woodbridge has somewhat high prices but you can get deals there, or if you are looking for something in particular, there's a kitchen table dealer in Leesburg named Joe Elarde that will beat any price by at least 20%. PM me and I can send you his information. He does the major gunshows in NOVA.

I don't know how far it is from you, but the one in Culpeper sells guns. So does the one at Massaponax just south of Fredericksburg, but the Culpeper location had the best selection I've seen in a Wal-Mart in a while the last time I was there.

(I've seen Culpeper/Culpepper spelled both ways.)

I know that the Manassas (Liberia Ave), Woodbridge (Potomac Mills), and the Kingstown Wal-marts Do Not sell firearms. In Fairfax County the biggest selection of bolt action rifles is Dicks in Fair Lakes. Gander Mountain has a large selection but is 40 minutes down I-95.

the best wal-mart I've seen in terms of guns was the Woodstock, VA wally world off of I-81.

None of them around FFX county carry guns anymore, and the one in Burke Centre doesn't carry ammo anymore either.

That's ok though, since Dick's has their special Rem UMC deal going which is cheaper than wally world now since they raised the price of WWB and the blazer brass (though very good ammo) is still about a buck more than the Rem at Dick's.

I'm kinda getting sick of the anti-gun attitude of NoVa (if you've seen the state senate ads on TV you'll understand...bla bla ban handguns bla bla schools rec centers bla bla bla I'm a flaming anti-gunner who's an idiot)

Oops I forgot that we aren't allowed to talk politics here...:uhoh:

Don't matter though because I don't vote anyhow at this time :p

Both Winchester stores sell firearms, and a new WalMart is going up in Front Royal right off 66.

WalMarts that don't sell guns look neutered to me. I really wonder what Sam Walton would think if he were alive today.
