After having my eye on the Saiga 5.45, I finally ordered all of the parts and have received them all. From here I'll keep you all posted with my progress n ask questions (A LOT of em cuz i've never done a conversion )

Here's where I'm at so far:

*Eotech 512
*Primary Arms 5x Magnifier
*Primary Arms FTS Mount
*DPH Beryl Mount
*TimberSmith Furniture
*Custom Pistol Grip
*Polish Magazine
*Tapco Trigger & Angled Guard From CSS
* Gas tube and lower retainer coming tomorrow

If you have any suggestions/ question don't hesitate to post!

First question:

Which of these is your favorite type of red stained furniture? I'm torn between these and want your opinions.

1:

2:

3:

I still like that 2nd but with the kind of translucent look of the 3rd BUT I'm torn between that idea and #1 because of its uniqueness...Decisions, decisions

I'm a little leery of that style sight mount, especially if you use something heavy. I like the standard AK side-mount rails, with a quick release.

I was leary at first two but was reassured by the reviews that I read

On another note, hat's a good place to get a threaded FSB? Preferably with everything that's needed for the installation (if, not, what do I need and where do I get it).

I just messaged him about those parts except 4 the gas block.Wouldn't I be able to use the Saiga one?

@chris in va...mine does (Polish mags)
@mshootnit...Me too (I have 3 black guns) but i wanted to try something different this time

I would sand and use boiled linseed oil. Maybe just a drop or three of red stain in the mix.

Update: I got a Bulgy FSB along with the zig zag brake yesterday. Also, I'm going to have to wait to convert my rifle later in the week when I have the tools handy but in the meantime, I'll finish finishing the furniture (I went with option 1 and am about to put the 4th coat of poly on) :-D

How many coats of poly do you think is enough?? I'm letting the 8th coat of Minwax Clear Gloss dry now (5 coats of brush-on poly and 3 coats of wipe-on poly).
