OK, I finally bought a 1911 and I can't wait to shoot it. Now I am on to researching my next handgun purchase. I am thinking I want to give a 10mm a try. Now I have read a couple of post now about hose great the S&W 1006 was/is but I have yet to actually see one locally. What other 10MM are worth looking at? Is there anything that is as stout as the 1006 I have read about? I know Glock makes a 10MM but I don't find Glock to fit my hand all that well, so I am looking for other options.

I've been meaning to buy a 10mm for years now, but I never seem to get around to it.
Initially I was going to go for an EAA Witness, being they're relatively cheap and robust. However, after my cluster-mess with my .40S&W Witness compact, I'm a bit wary. Seems Tanfaglio makes a great product, but EAA does a lousy job standing behind it.

I've looked into some older model Auto Ordnance 10mms, but folks I know warn me to steer clear. Same with the old AMT Javelin I once had a thing for.

Like you, I also find the G20 doesn't fit my mitts well either. Being a fan of the venerable 1911, I've found myself eyeing Dan Wesson's Razorback. If not in a 1911 format, I just might find myself a nice S&W 1006 or 1076 and be content.

You can also look at the S&W Model 1076, Witness 10MM's(have 2), Dan Wesson Razorbacks, Kimber also has one, colt Delta Elite if you can find one, and there are others also................I have a S&W model 1076, M610, full size Witness, and a compact Witness and they are all good handguns.....

10mm is my favorite handgun caliber. Take a look at a used Colt Delta Elite. A very fine pistol. Also, the new Glock 20's have a slimmer grip than the older ones.

The Tanfoglio Witness has good ergos. Same frame as their 45 ACP. A little big for some people but it fits me well. If you like 1911s there's the Kimber and Dan Wesson offerings or a used Delta Elite (although their price keeps going up).

I have an old Delta and it's a decent gun but they do have their shortcomings. Check out Sean Smith's 10mm Tech page for lots of good info about 1911 based 10mms. There's also the S&W 610 if you like revolvers. Very robust gun makes the round very manageable.

Check out 10mm Talk for lots of good info and reviews.

Maybe the wheel gun is the way to go. I like the idea of the power of a 10mm and I am getting the feeling that a revolver would be better suited for what I want.

FWIW, the Glock 20 felt a little large and a little akward in my hands when I first held it in the store.
Fortunatly for me a friend has one and when I shot it, It felt great.
I now shoot it exclusivly in IDPA.
It's a straight shooter that handles the recoil better than any other. If you can rent or borrow one, do yourself a favor and shoot it. It may suprise you.

Colt Delta Elite my friend Colt Delta Elite!

It will go nicely with Loaded Springfield 1911

man if this bug keeps biting, your mustang is going to feel very neglected.

10mm is my favorite round. I've owned the SW 1006,1086, G20, G29, EAA Witness and a couple of SW610 revolvers. I sold all except for the revolver. It's a great shooter and I can also shoot 40 in it without having to buy an extra barrel. You can't go wrong with a 10mm.

A friend purchased a 1006 last year at my urging. I like the thing well enough that one of my own is on the "short list".

A lot complain about the grip. Didn't bother me, really. What DID bother me was the trigger. Just the typical DA/SA stuff, like a thousand-lb DA pull followed immediately by a change to SA. This wasn't so bad after figuring out where the SA reset point was. My friend tended to throw the first DA round off to the left. Practice would fix that in time. I'm certain it can be improved but it'll have to go to a smith for it.

Accuracy was just a little worse than my Razorback, and it's not impossible that was due to the trigger.

The gun has run 100 percent with whatever we've fed it so far, from Federals to Double Tap's offerings.

IMO, strongly recommended.

But then a Delta has that certain cachet... :D

edit: and don't foget to drop in over here, if you haven't found it already.

I've been looking locally for a Delta Elite or even a Razorback for several years now - haven't found one yet. <sigh>

The bug has most definitely been bighting alot here. I am trying not to neglect the mustang too much but when the master plan for it involves something north of $10K guns just seem to be a whole lot more attractive.

I just can't wait to shoot the Springfield this weekend. I am hoping to put a few hundred rounds through it. I already have the urge though for something bigger. I was thinking either 10mm or maybe a .44 or .500 revolver.

I have two, awesome "Forty" caliber guns. A Dan Wesson Pointman in 10MM and a S&W 629 Mountain Gun with 4" barrel. Either would satisfy your Recoil Jones.

I love my 10mm's! If the Glock doesn't fit your hand try out the Kimber, EAA Witness, or Dan Wesson.

I have a 1006 and love it.

Found a 1066 and 1076 at the gunshow this weekend that I hopefully can raise enough funds to buy them both at the end of the month.

Just started rolling my own ammo for the 10MM.

It really is a great round to shoot.

I am pretty partial to my Dan Wesson Razorback. If you have the coin, you can call up Les Baer and get one made like I did.

I love my 1006... last gun I would ever sell, but it is a little big for carry. I wouldn't mind getting a 1076 for that purpose, and the best part is that they share mags.

I have a Glock 20 and I'm really happy with it. It is the most accurate of all my Glocks. I don't have any other 10mms at the moment, but there is a Para P16.40 at the local shop. Drop in a 10 mm barrel, new recoil spring and, from what I've been able to find out, I'm set. The alternative will be either a Kimber or Dan Wesson. If I come across a Delta Elite for a price I can live with, I'll pick it up. One of my big stupid mistakes was passing on an $800 Delta Gold Cup stainless barely used that a dealer friend of mine was tryin to sell a while back. :banghead:
