I was reading that certain M1911’s in 10mm are being shipped with . 45mags and the importers are saying that 10mm in .45mags is OK!
Specifically, the Taylor &Co. 10mm’s.

My only experience with the 10mm was 30yrs ago with the Mod 1006 S&W. The mags for it are unobtanium and the 5-I had worth as much as the gun...

What does the 1911 knowledgeable here think?

Some 45 ACP single stack mags will feed 10mm or 40S&W just fine, some will self unload. All depends on how much they bend in the feed lips. That varies a lot from manufacture to manufacture.

I've only ever loaded a 40SW in a 1911 mag for a .45. It was an accident that somehow got mixed into a new bulk pack of Win WB bulk ammo. The feed lips held it, and it cycled perfectly out of the mag, into the chamber, and fortunately didn't hang in the extractor and the slide velocity pushed it right out the end of the barrel. I saw something fall out and found the loaded round at my feet. Figured out what happened, then tried it a couple more times and duplicated the same result.

That is interested, I'll have to check out my 10mm using my 45 acp magazines. I'll reply when I remember my combination to safe.

I have Smith M&P's in 45 and 10mm. Spare 10mm mags were unavailable for a long time and I tried the 45 mags loaded with 10mm cartridges. It worked MOST of the time. But not enough for me to trust, maybe for range only use. I was finally able to pick up a couple of spare 10mm mags.

I've never tried it with 1911 mags but would expect similar results.

However, during the 1994-2004 AWB, you could easily obtain 10 round 40 S&W mags and load 14 rounds of 9mm in them. It worked with my Ruger P95, Glock 17 and 19 as well as the Beretta 92. Can't say for sure about others. My experience with that was 100% reliability.
