Now That I've Talked The Talk...(pics...friggin' finally)

Since I've been ranting for months about the Rem 700VS I've been shooting...stuff like the IBA Tune-Up (long, dull), and the latest drivel about target size (questionable relevance, dull), I think I better walk the walk;

Stock VS in .308 Win except for the IBA stuff,

U.S. Optics ST-10, Badger Ordnance base and rings. Some people refer to the cheek piece as ghetto...I call it field expedient:D , esp since most of the manufactured stuff is still to low (all the girls in undergrad were right...I DO have a small head!).

But it ain't about looks:

Used FGM .308 168gr 3 shot groups at 100yds, 38 degrees. winds 2-15 from 8:00. Once I settled down and started paying attention, the smallest group came in at .350". All groups were sub-MOA...with factory ammo. This represents a rifle low (3 shot) group. I'm convinced that both the target size and the adjustable objective on the USO scope were critical componants in this outcome.

Now if I can get out and test some handloads with these targets...

These are the 100yd targets I was yaking about in an earlier post. If anyone is interested in using them, I can e-mail copies of the 100, 200, 300, and 400yd targets. What the heck, they're free targets...

Nice walking E3M

trigger weight?
modifications
bi-pod/tri-pod
got a level bubble
price range for complete rig
most accurate ammo so far

I drooled over a VS forever, hell of a rifle. Pretty too, huh?

Weren't any modifications outside of the IBA stuff: clear the bedding block and install steel torque screws, set to 65in/lbs, cleaned and reset trigger to 3.75lbs after the sear was replaced. Everything else wasn't really necessary, IMHO. The stick shot pretty well out of the box; MOA with most factory stuff, one or two 5 shot handload groups in the high .3's (which explains my surprise at the FGM low group).

-Shot off of std front rest and rear bag, no level, best groups so far with handloads, Lapua brass, IMR 4895, 4064 and Varget.

I'm really just getting used to the ST-10 and I'm probably not overly qualified to make a review. Sniper's Hide has regular wars over the USO v. Leupold issue..grab a beer and go through them sometime. I'll say that the USO line is worthy of consideration if you're looking at higher end glass, cause I'm sure as heck not gonna say they're better than Leupold's top end scopes. They're competitive with the Lueps, as well as the Horus system, S&B, and the Nightforce line. Plus' and minuses with any of them...

More later...

I had a similar "ghetto" cheekpiece on my rifle for a while. I used an old wrestling mat. Was nice and squishy in warm weather, but in the cold, it got hard as a rock. Eventually got rid of it when I went back to iron sights.
