Now this is funny!

I can't believe my eyes....that looks like Gunsite's logo on the garage in the background.:uhoh::what: Say it ain't so! Jeff Cooper would roll over in his grave!!!

Um...what am I missing here?

Looks funky as hell but...there's a bit of validity to the type of practice. Right?

The *music* is just hilarious.

I saw a hell of a lot of relevant quality instruction that could be gained from that drill.

Whoever set it to that music track was just trying to be cute, and ruined it.

What exactly is wrong with it?

Is it me or did the man who was shooting at the dummy turn and sweep the other guy who was standing there, all the while still shooting?

I didn't see any shooting going on in that video. In fact, now that I watch it again, it looks like the "shooter" might be using an inert training gun. In some of the shots, the grip appears to be bright blue. I dunno about that, though.

ahhh i didnt see that. It probably doesnt help that i have the sound on my computer muted. I guess that's why i wasn't able to tell if there was any shooting going on.

Concur on the blue holster.

Does the dummy's shirt have simunitions paint on it?

The dummy seems kind of slow... only about a fast walk. Limitations of batteries & motors, no doubt.

On the other hand, the defender doesn't move as fast as a real person, either. Maybe because the dummy is in slow motion.

Looks like a segment from an episode of Personal Defense TV.

It is, I remember the segment. Lots of good instruction, use of verbal commands, movement off the line of attack while drawing, all good stuff. IIRC, they emphasized the fact that they were going "less than battle speed" for training purposes and so you could catch all the nuances as they described them. Good training segment ruined, as others have said, by cutesy music.

Most people get so little training on movement (because we have to practice on "square ranges" where it's not allowed) that it's best to start out slowly. Crawl before you walk, walk before you run. And yes, it is Gun Site.

I must be bent, liked the music!

Not a shoot situation, even though it was an inert gun, the "shooter" came off the trigger when the observer came under the gun.

I met Jeff Cooper on a number of occasions, I think he might of got a kick out of the music!

As an ex LEO I have to say this is a great idea, it gives a real world dimension to tactical situations as opposed to a piece of cardboard with a painted face on it.

And it was still very fast considering an attack on an unaware person. What's the beef? The music? You don't get the music with the training!

That's the rabbit at Gunsite, and that's an instructor. Looks like they are testing it.

It's always really hard to contextualize speed and such on videos, especially youtube quality/size vids (with distracting music to boot)...to me it looked like it was travelling at 10mph peak, which while not a seasoned sprinter speed, is faster than many people can run and concentrate on anything else...other times it seemed to be a brisk jog pace. It's just so hard to judge distance and scale, let alone compare something that's basically a small tank-like robot to a human's gait.

Still, it seemed reasonable to me, since someone who wanted to intimidate/disarm you with a knife in order to gain compliance might not sprint and attack, but rather approach quickly and use verbal commands.

Seems silly to me....

We do our training with "live" attackers, not robotic dummies. We use simunitions, airsoft, red guns, etc. No reason that a person couldn't have been the knife carrying attacker in that scenario.

As is often said, you need to practice how you fight, because you will fight how you've practiced (and I don't intend to be attacked by a Segway Scooter at work today).

Oh, but won't you feel incredibly foolish if you are, in fact, attacked by a maniac knife-wielding Segway assailant today and think "D'oh! I could have TRAINED for this!"

Definitely looked like simunitions soap on the dummy and i also saw blue on the gun. Didn't see any slide action so it doesn't seem like it was a live-fire session though.

If I am ever attacked by someone with a knife, I would have the same response. Move backward at oblique, draw and shoot until threat stops moving.

Using the remote control cars you can get more training out of it. People only want to get shot with simunitions so many times. And having someone that is paid to get shot 5-6 times each run by a class of 12 would be pretty expensive.

Wonder what the job title would be..."Professional Victim?"

Junk the simunitions and stick with airsoft.

It's cheaper that way and allows for more repetitions with less padding.

Except it's not exactly like the gun you are going to be using. Also either way someone has to get shot at, if you are paying $1000-1500 for a 5 day training class, you don't want to be taking turns running at the person with a blue knife.
