Kindergarten teacher Myriam Kennelly came up with the idea of the "peace toy trade" as a way of letting kids and parents know that guns of any kind are not permitted at the school.

It is ridiculous. But, I used to live in Salinas. The whole city is filled with Hispanic gangs, random shootings, and other violence. My wife worked in the county hospital there and saw almost as much gang trauma as when she was at a Compton (in Watts) hospital in the eighties.

The public schools there are the reason we moved away. Bad news. Private ones weren't much better.

This doesn't make their actions any less granola-like, but they have real problems there, the whole area's mentality is more like the inner city than an agricultural city that Salinas is.

I wonder just what do they teach in schools now days.
How do they explain the Wild West with the cowboys and Indians?
How about all the Wars,Civil and the 2 World Wars?
How do they explain how these battles were won?
My son (13) read about Vietnam this week 1/2 a page and thats it.
 
Sounds like they are receiving a real education to prepare them for the real world where they will be able to trade their real guns for real money. :scrutiny:
 
I think I kind of disagree with you guys on this one. This is not ignorance or stupidity on the leftists part. This is brainwashing. What message was sent to thr 5 yr old kid? Oh yeah he wrote it on the banner "Guns are bad." Not violence is bad or crime is bad, but guns. Lets stigmatize guns in the childrens minds so there'll be no resistance from the next generation.

What ever happened to teaching kids safety & responsibility? Oh that's right, responsible kids are thinking kids and we just can't have that...

But nahh, there's no conspiracy.:rolleyes:

I wonder how the parents feel laying out some bucks for a decent looking toy gun to find the kid coming home with a $2.00 coloring book?

If the toy gun makers (Mattel? etc.) with the big bucks could conceive of the fact that their long-term business is in jeopardy, maybe they would take the school and the teacher to court for restricting free trade - and the loacls should nail them for dealing in - since they consider toy guns dangerous - weapons without the various licenses normal stores pay for.

Yeah, Andy - dream on.

P.S. - The more kids know about guns young - safety et al - the easier and less time it takes the army to qualify them... that's a federal thing that someone might look at - the long range view of national defense.

Isn't California a part of the US?

Lets see:
  1. Education in Spanish
  2. Firearms highly restricted or banned.
  3. Guns have a life of their own, and the amazing ability to commit crimes; random killings, robbery, carjackings and rape.
  4. One of Kalifornias bigger exports is guns. Through the movies that is.

At first upon reading the above comments I was left wondering what 5 year old in his right mind would give up a toy gun. I can remember being that young. I can remember how bad I wanted my first cap gun. I can still remember how much that gun meant to me when I finally got it! They'd have had to beat me half to death to give it up.

Then I read the article and saw the picture. All I can say is it looks like they needs a smaller can! Notice they didn't mention the success of their program in raw numbers. All that for two or three toy guns? :rolleyes:

Yep. And when some get to the "cool" age, the reverse can become the norm - if guns are bad because they break things and scare people, then for some, guns are good to break things and scare people; power- to-harm.

For the more-than-some who have learned and are confident in their learning, guns are good because they break things and scare goblins; power-to-defend.

I'm beginning to believe that the only way the antis will change sides is when they've, personally and individually, been victimized in serious ways, in multiple experiences. Maybe then the light will go on.

Me too. Of all of the guns that I had at a very young age, my gun is one of two that I remember.

Remember who advocated teaching the children young? :uhoh:

I'm not a big fan of home-schooling, but there can be no doubt that ALL of a child's real-world experiences should come from their parents.

I wonder if the parents know that this is going on. :scrutiny:
