We've never been to an NRA annual meeting and are planning to go to Pittsburgh in 2011.
Who has been to an NRA convention and what can we expect at the event?

I went to the Orlando meeting in '03 at the Convention center. Expect to see booths from every manufacturer but no guns you can buy there. Lots of giveaway chachkis. A few speeches by politicians and NRA officials, a meeting for voting members, an airgun range setup in a separate room. Famous shooters; Tom Knapp and such. Concession food unless you leave the venue. Every sort of NRA T-shirts, frisbees, shotglasses, hats, bags etc, for sale. Poor gun handling by members' family members (8year olds holding 1911's pointed at you with the kid going "pa-Kow"). All in all a great time, can't wait till it comes here again. Joe

I have gone to two over the years when they have been close by. The second time I took my two young sons. It is definitely a worth while experience if you are a gun person and/or involved in the politics of firearms. The display area is just incredible and well worth the time and expense of going.

If you take along a kid who is interested in guns and shooting and has some knowledge on the subject already, the people in the display booths will dump all kinds of free stuff on him/her that they won't give you. :D

Thanks guys, that's what I expected to hear. I'm bringing the wife instead of a kid, so maybe she'll be able to score some give-aways.

The show will be crowded and like said most all manufactures will be their . A great chance to hold and look over pistols, rifles, shotguns, knives, you read about but dealer never gets in. As said lots of free items Bring something to carry it all in . I will be their with my girls working  at the Bersa/American Classic Booth . It will be a long week end but its fun meeting and talking to all the people . Come visit.

Gonna bump this, its right around the corner, and I am gonna try my best to get up there for Saturday and part of Sunday...

I was at the one in Charlotte this past year and got Ronnie Barrett sign a poster for me and shake his hand. Man that was fun. It is now framed and hanging in my apartment :)

My wife and I went to the meeting in Charlotte last year also and we got to meet Gunnie R. Lee Ermey at the Glock booth he was very nice and we got our pictures taken with him. It was a lot of fun

If you can make it at all, don't miss it. Lots of guns and equipment to look over and handle, seminars and banquets to attend and great speakers to listen to. I was at the last convention in Pittsburgh as well as subsequent ones in Louisville and Charlotte and can say that each location has its advantages. Biggest plus for the Pittsburgh site for me is its closer proximity to where I live.

that's a big ditto there Swampwolf.

80,000 people can't be wrong-- well except for the last election I guess.

The only compliant I've ever heard was there just wasn't enough time to play with all the guns there.

I plan to attend this. Looking forwad to it. Been wanting to go to one for a few years now.
