NRA endorsed Sen Manchin (D WV) calls for AWB

While we are talking about what efforts the NRA has supported it might be worth noting they opposed taking the Heller case to the SCOTUS (well to be more precise they opposed Levy a Cato institute senior Fellow and Gura pursing Parker and filed sham litigation in an attempt to have the case consolidated with another case. The NRA also pressed for legislation that would have in effect denied the plaintiffs stadning on mootness grounds and prevented the case from proceeding. Levy has stated the NRA seriously hindered their efforts and nearly derailed the case) the most important gun rights victory we have ever won. Thank God we are not relying on the legal battles the NRA is fighting. Levy did more to assure gun rights in pressing Heller and its progeny than anything else that had been done to that point. It may be the foundation for invalidating any AWB that could be passed.

Girodin, I know you are passionate about your views. It is in your examples. I am not a lawyer, just a blue collar guy. But I know enough about the courts to know you only bring something to the SCOTUS if you believe you can win, as any loss will be used forever as precedent for future cases. Assuming they will even hear the case.

Take a step back and relax. We are all upset about the incident. Calm dialog goes a lot further than emotional rants. Please keep trying to convince people, just keep an open mind.

I am a lawyer. I know that you are never guaranteed a win when you go into court. I'm starkly aware that pursing the Parker case was not without risk. I also know that Levy and those involved were not just shooting from the hip either. Obviously we know now that the NRA was wrong in their calculation of how likely Parker (which became Heller) was to succeed (and that is if we take them at their word for why they took the course of action they did) and Levy and company were right. Nothing I wrote about the NRA's actions with respect to Heller was an emotional rant. That is in fact what happened. It is not disputed, and you can read all about it from various sources, including those involved. If the NRA had been successful in its efforts with respect to Parker/Heller, we never would have won that case, that is simply a fact. Heller was the most important victory in relation to the RKBA.

I apologize for calling it a rant. Also as a lawyer, you probably have not made any bad decisions (sarcasm intended). The NRA as an organization is also not perfect, and I have found myself disagreeing with them on numerous occasions. Can you come up with an organization that is more on our side than them? I can't. Better the devil you know, then the devil you don't!

I do respect your opinion. Keep it coming....

I've made all kinds of mistakes. I've miscalculated as a lawyer on things and I've made mistakes in all kinds of other things as well. The thing isn't to never make a mistake. It is to be cognizant that you did, fix what you can reflect on the error, and then take steps to prevent making the same types of mistakes again.

I suggested perhaps they not endorse folks who cannot even earn their highest grades on their report card. If one is not getting the highest grade that suggests they are not fully committed to RKBA issues.

I hardly suggested they could never endorse a Democrat irrespective of anything they said or did. At best I suggested that they not endorse Democrats who have not made it clear through word AND deed that they oppose their parties official position on gun control and do not share the party view of what it means to preserve the 2nd amendment.

OK, fair enough. You said you haven't found prior record of his stances to prove or disprove his (assumedly former) commitment to RKBA. I agree that he should stand FIRMLY and VOCALLY with us to earn anything like an "A" rating. And if he did not, then he should have never been actually endorsed.

It sounds like Bubbles maybe has some info on that?

I certainly agree that if he was endorsed on bad, or NO, grounds then we should be reading the NRA the riot act over that.

If he's actually just turned coat, so to speak -- not so much.
