I just rented this game, you can find it on Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/Crave-Enterta...sr_1/103-7593564-8543057?ie=UTF8&s=videogames

It is a wonderful, non-violent first-person shooter game. In it, you try to get "certified" in various shooting sports. Like trap, plinking, long range shooting, tactical, etc. I think it is definitely worth looking into for a gun fix if you can't find your way to the range for whatever reason.

I looked at several video game sites that review games, and they almost universally hated this game, because of the graphics and the lack of sound and such. They just don't understand shooting or have a very small attention span. :neener:

Played it on Friday ..

and noticed the same thing :)

(That is, in trying to find out how much it costs, I ran into the same reviews.)

I don't much like most video games, but this one I really liked -- no silly violent scenarios for points, for one thing! (Just arguably silly scenarios based on real-life courses ;))

I wish they had more of the guns that I either own or would like to, but I will admit the options are pretty broad. I only played for a few minutes, so I suspect I missed some details, but are there *no* Springfield guns, and no Winchesters or Rugers? I guess those are under contracts to some other game maker or simply (I'm guessing with Ruger) didn't want to be part of a video game.

My own complaints are twofold, though I really enjoyed playing:

1) Not the game maker's fault, but a stupid video game controller is not a good interface for firing a gun! :) I wonder if there are any gun-shaped controllers for the PS2.

2) The aiming system ... I wish there was at least an option of "looking through sights" (perhaps hard to simulate, but ... well, I don't see why) rather than looking at a shaky x that's just got to float over the target. They actually do a pretty good job of simulating hand shake; I didn't play long enough to notice if they take time playing a particular thing into account (I know in real life my arms are shakier after a session of shooting;)).

I'd rather see, at least in split screen, a fuzzy rear sight, a sharp front sight, and a sharpish target. Or perhaps the ability to shift among these. Shifting focus from target to front sight and then BOOM is I think what happens in real life ...

Have you been to an arcade lately? I used to play several arcade games with gun-shaped controllers. Lots of fun. :D I don't think there's anything like that for the PS2, though.

I was also hoping for some Rugers, maybe see if they got my 10/22 right. :neener: I do think it's some legal issue...Ruger said they didn't want their guns in the game for whatever reason...blah blah

I would also like to be able to look down the sights, but as it is, there's an option to sort of focus, almost like you're looking though a scope. Kind of odd, really. By the way, everywhere I've seen it online, it's selling for around $20. Darn good deal, about as much as a couple of boxes of ammo. And, well, you can only simulate shooting a gun so well. There's nothing else quite like it, really.

There's the Guncon2 that goes along with the Time Crisis series.
