I just took the NRA pistol instructor course and was thinking that perhaps it was time I joined the NRA as a life member. I had been thinking that this was $500 or $550, but that they run promos at gunshows, etc. Well the NRA webpage is now listing it as $1k, which means it must have gone up a lot recently. This NRA central page is showing the rate as $750 although it disagrees with the actual "join the nra" page. Anyways, at the 5 year rate of $125 you could pay dues for 40 years before you break even on the $1k/life dues.

I don't want to short change the NRA but what is the cheapest way to get an NRA life membership?

What does "break even" mean? Joining as a life member just to save money probably doesn't break even. If you care to be involved past just the basic membership it allows you to vote, stuff like that.

The price seems to go up and down and they are always having "special deals" of some kind or another.

The "official" price is $1000 but like you say there are specials all the time.

I got a thing the other day offering to sell me a gift certificate for a life membership that I could give to a kid, grandkid, whatever. They wanted $300 for that. So there's a life membership for $300.

Most of the "recruiters" can probably get you a life membership for $750. There are some on this board or you can go to the TSRA website and join thru there for $750. You might also think about a 5 year membership if the life is too expensive. You still get full voting rights with the 5 year.

My five years is up in January and I was thinking of doing the e-z pay life (25 bucks 4 times a year until paid up) my wife did a few years back. That is not listed on the site or in any of the (now weekly) entreaties for me to renew. My wife's been saying--why haven't you renewed yet?; I told her I wanted to see at what point they would start offering me larger re-sign goodies (this week was a lock-blade knife). By January, I hope to have them sweating enough that I can negotiate a new seat cover for my truck.

The link from the TSRA page is just to the standard NRA join up page and it's listing the price as $1k as well.

I asked a friend, who is a life member, about these and he said he'd never gotten an offer like that. Are these things sent out at random or to all life members?
