A hoodie is just part of the "gangbanger" uniform, and when worn in that context, the uniform is clearly meant to convey intimidation. I think that's inarguable.
If one dresses like a Cowboy, I assume his value system is that of a Cowboy.
If one dresses like a Gangbanger, I assume his value system is that of a Gangbanger.
I think that it's fair of me to take strangers at face value by the way they choose to dress. ...Sorry, I don't have time to get to know who's serious about their image and who's "just funnin' around".
The one hoodie I own is emblazoned with Mickey Mouse® and "DisneyLand Anaheim", which tends to diminish the urban thug "intimidation" factor.
