Any comments on the numbers of wild boar/feral hogs in NY State counties people are seeing, areas where there appears to be higher activity and any recommenations on guides would be very much appreciated. As I understand it, boar are a nuisance animal in NY and there are no seasonal restrictions but any suggestions on what seasons provide the best opportunity for a successful hunt would be great.

Honestly, I don't think there is a large enough population to even bother hunting them. From what I've heard, all the hogs shot in NY were by deer hunters that were in the right place at the right time.

I understand from a DEC fellow that I know there's a fair number of them in south eastern Washington county. I haven't seen one, but I know a number have been shot this year.

If you try to find one, good luck. I have yet to see any. If you are successful, be sure to post pics. I wouldn't think they'd come this far north in any substantial numbers. I would think that once winter came, any hogs would be tore apart in deep snow by coyotes.

you DID mean to say that the coyote's'l get torn up by the hogs.......right?

Joking aside, I have seen 80 lb pit bull catch dogs ripped to pieces with their guts dragging on the ground by a boar hog.......and the ones we have are not the russians that're apparently a lot rougher. Damned tough critters!
