as far as I know you have to buy a handgun from the state you reside in,so if hypothetically if you lived in florida and got a NYC permit to carry, how could you legally get a handgun in nyc.

You can only purchase a handgun in the state in which you reside. So if you live in FL, but have a non-resident CCW from another state, you cannot buy a handgun there and take possession of it. You could buy the gun and have it transferred to an FFL in your home state, however.

Unless you're one the privileged elite and a friend of the mayor or similar you're not getting a carry permit in NYC, so it's pretty much a moot point.

You cannot buy a handgun outside your state of residence. If you are one of the privileged elite, I'm sure you can afford to fly back down to FL to pickup your gun...

You can buy a gun in any state and have an FFL in that state transfer it to an FFL in your home state.

then could you have it registered there
It will be registered in your home state. I don't know if NY would require they have reg records of your guns because you have one of their permits.

FYI, don't bring guns into NYC for any reason, unless you have lots of free time. No matter how legal you are you are illegal in NYC. That's why I don't go there.

You can't get a non-resident permit for a handgun in NY. So you can't legally possess a handgun in NY if you aren't a resident of NY (except under very limited circumstances, such as shooting competitions).

Sucks, stupid, but that's the law.
