NYU prof talking sense on ABC

Thanks for posting that HSBB - I wonder if ABC knew who they were inviting when they booked the interview because the (Kate Snow?) seemed surprised at some of the answers.

But that was really good - and I think it helped that he wasn't affiliated with any organization, but the fact that he mentioned motor vehicle fatalities and the fact that we're not changing traffic lawsand that the people who commit the mass shooting could have used something other than a firearm - all good stuff.

Oh. My. God.

A Genuine "common sense" discussion of the futility of more firearm laws in the wake of these recent mass shootings.

What next - flying pigs?

Thanks for posting this. I may send it to a few friends and relatives who believe more "common sense" gun laws are the answer.

What was most illuminating was the idea that for some problems - there ISN'T an answer with an acceptable cost.

Folks want to believe there is an answer for every problem - as long as it does not infringe on their lives.

Try asking those same folks to give up their cars in order to solve the problem of traffic fatalities.

Great, great interview. Except he left out theft as a possible method of acquisition. I haven't heard that mentioned much anymore. I don't know why.

My only wish is that he'd said "...making it harder for law-abiding people..." to obtain firearms, instead of saying ..."making it harder for deranged individuals..." to obtain a firearm.

I also particularly liked where he pointed out the fallacy of the Brady's claim that background checks prevented guns from getting into the hands of criminals.

He made it clear that they may have prevented a licensed gun dealer from selling them a gun - but NOT from obtaining a firearm from some other source in a world FULL of guns.

Even if we wanted to - there's no way to put the genie back in the bottle.

I believe I've read that even though many criminals have been denied the purchase of a firearm from a dealer, that's as far as it went. Law enforcement never followed up with an arrest. Seems like an arrest might have prevented gun crime later on down the road. Wish that had been mentioned.

Slightly OT, but

I believe I've read that even though many criminals have been denied the purchase of a firearm from a dealer, that's as far as it went. Law enforcement never followed up with an arrest.

I've been in a store when a guy got denied. The shop owner acted real cool and calm, and said, "The operator said she'll call back in about 15 minutes. Until then feel free to keep looking around."

Well, the guy got visibily nervous and started towards the door; I saw him get in his car and drive off.

About 5 minutes later a Missouri State Trooper and a County Sheriff pull into the lot (the shop is roughly 7 miles from the nearest town), they came running in and asked where the guy went.

Apparently he had a BIG flag come up on him and the NICS operator told him not to confront the guy, but to try to hold him and she put in a call directly to the MO highway patrol.

Shop owner said it was the only time he'd ever heard of it happening.

Don't "they" always seem surprised when the truth differs from their own deranged ideas.

Wait a minute. Didn't I just see on some recent threads that the media are out to get us? Didn't I just read on a couple of other recent threads that all college professors are whacky leftists and '60s Hippies turned crazy on LSD?
How can this possible be? It must be some sort of mistake.

Thingster, same thing happened at my favorite shop, but the buyer knew about the flag, and waited calmly for the PD to come. They talked for about 20 minutes outside, and then hooked him up.His claim that it was a mistake that should have been removed from the system was not believed by most of us in the shop, but he waited calmly. He proved us all wrong 2 days later when he came back and his NCIC came out clean,he got his gun...Clean cut, average looking guy,too...Good to see he got it cleared up quickly...

Whoa, a college professor talking sense instead of being a fanatic?!!! Wow... Write or email your local tv stations to get this guy and others like him on the air more. Letters to local stations apparently lead the main networks in their decisions.
