I was getting redy to reload my new 7mm08 shells. I blakened the bullet and checked the O drive measurements. My question is, is the reading I am getting for these Sierra bullets correct in reguards to the over all length? With the comparator, the measurement when the ogive reaches the rifle barrel grooves is to 2.327 . With this .284 cal 150gr Sierra MK, that measurement gives me 2.840 OAL .
This long OAL just means it wont go into the internal magazine right?
The next number to hit if I am correct for best accuracy is 0.010 less?
Or 0.001 or 0.002 ?

Gonzofam,

You will have to check your magazine to see if they will fit. My FN SPR magazine will accept 2.840" OAL cartridges. With many .308-based cartridges, the magazine length is the limiting factor regarding OAL. Best accuracy varies from one rifle to the next, so there is no universal "best accuracy OAL". I would avoid trying to seat your bullets to an COAL of less than 0.010". The reason is, the ogive location will vary by up to 0.010" on even the high quality Sierra MatchKing bullets, and having some of your bullets off the lands and some of them into the lands is not conducive to accuracy.
