Hey all,

I replaced the rubber-ish O-ring on a 1100 LW 20 about 350-400 rounds ago. I broke it down this am to clean it, and I saw a 1/4" "tail" of rubber had been cut from the ring and was sticking up when I pulled the forearm off.

Did I install something wrong to cut that little piece of rubber, and what is the expectancy of these O-rings?

(I bought s 3- pack when I changed it so I replaced the cut one today.)

Thanks, and stay safe!

Heh! On my unused-for-40-years 12 gauge 1100 they lasted 40 years and then a season of once-a-week skeet.

Copy, I think the rings I have were eBay purchases(?) so they're probably not up to OEM standards.

When I bought the gun used I got it at a fairly low price ...I seriously think the former owner thought it was a hopeless jam-o-matic so it was priced to sell.

It was a jammer at first, but the metal O-ring was installed incorrectly. Once I flipped it over into the correct position and put on a new rubber o-ring it's been 100% even wth the cheapo Winchester Universals from the 'Mart.

I'll look for the Viton rings and get those, thanks!!

Stay safe!

O-rings in Rem 1100 last indefinitely. I replaced mine every couple years because my 1100 also served as my HD shotgun. Keep a couple around for peace of mind.

Years ago I bought extra O-rings in the expectation to have a quick replace should mine fail during a skeet match. 12 gauge 1100 Bicentennial Edition with countless rounds since 1976... always cleaned and oiled after each match, including the o-ring. I just sold mine to my local Cabelas with the original o-ring still in it after shooting it in a match last December. With care they last forever.

If you manhandle them whole taking them off or putting them on, they will not last. Viton ones from the auto parts store are cheap and will last a lot longer
