Okay so I’ll be straight up honest, I’m in love with stainless steel finishes. Main reason is just flat out durability. I don’t have to give to much worry about it when in rough conditions. Or leaving it sit somewhere over a great period of time without anything happening to it.

Now I’ll also admit that I personally prefer Blue/Nickel finishes on revolvers because it looks classier but I just can’t get over the fact that there is a chance of it rusting or chipping if not taken care of properly.

I’m now stuck forcing myself to consider owning a blued/nickel finish gun. :banghead: Does anyone else feel the same as me? Or am I just plain crazy?

Please be honest, what can I do to break this weird obsession?

Thanks.

Nothing wrong with stainless. I really like the looks of a blue gun also.
Stainless will pit on you if not taken care of.

I don't like stainless steel. I own one stainless gun, a 3" S&W Model 65. I only own it because I haven't seen a blued 3" Model 13 in at least ten years.

I love blues guns and wooden grips. That said only two out of the seven handguns I own are blued. Stainless wears better and resists corrosion better.

There's nothing wrong with being obsessed with something. I'm your exact opposite, I like "tenifer" and blued.

Stainless! As soon as I saw a S&W model 60, I bought it and decided on stainless for everything offered. I still don't have a Browning Highpower. I have some blue guns: Luger, Makarov, Colt Peacemaker, 870 shotgun, Weatherby, etc. I have some nickel ones that didn't come in stainless right away. Oddly, I carry tenifer and hard-chromed guns. :D

It surprises me, come to think of it, that I do not own one gun in stainless. The only stainless on my guns comes from the barrels or bolts and that is it.

Note to self: get stainless gun.

I've long harbored an infatuation with Rugers pre Hawkeye stainless finish, particular when coupled with the "boat paddle" stock.

I despise these new finishes where the parts simply are left as they come out of a bead plaster and the manufacture has the gall to call to call this crap a "finish"

You hear me RUGER

I just put a stainless barrel on my Browning... got it for a very good deal to replace an older blued barrel. It's my first stainless barrel on any gun. Is there any special care of a stainless barrel/gun?

I have some 30 to 40 year old firearms that i don't give special care to that have no rust but have always used breakfree on them and the few SS guns i also have. One of my carry guns is blue and never showed rust butdo look as if carried and remember that if a magnet sticks to SS it does have enough carbon in it to rust or pit also with time.

I too like the durability and appearance of a stainless gun. They have a very distinctive look. However, for CC I find that a black or blue gun with a plastic or rubber grip blends in better. If someone catches a glimps of a stainless pistol with a wood grip, it's pretty easy to identify. But if someone sees the black grip of my XD just above my belt, they may need a longer look to know for sure what it is. I'm not saying that black equals invisability, I just like the way it blends.

I like SS Redhawks & Security Sixes, not blue ones. I like blue S&W's, not particularly SS ones. (I don't have one) I like blue Colts, but SS ones are OK too. (I have one)

I prefer stainless too. No worry about sweat, salty fingerprints, etc. But I also prefer black. Why not black stainless? The slide here is stainless:

I believe the black finish is called Melanite, but I'd have to look to confirm. (The gun is an FNP-45 from FNH USA.)

I just love stainless

I used to own a few stainless guns. But I sold/traded them all away. It just looks so cold and clinical. Like a refrigerator in a surgery.

I never thought I'd own a nickel gun, as I associated them with cheap pimp guns, but then I got my Smith 29. Oh, man. The warm glow of good nickel is like nothing else. I've had women swoon a little over it.

Bluing is a love-hate thing. It looks better to me. But it can wear. But it can be touched up. I've hidden many a scratch or heavy wear spot with cold blue. Sure, it rubs off; rub some back on.
