I spilled some beer on one of my stainless guns before and it held true, there was no stain after wiping it down. But I wonder, would bare stainless resist corrosion (rust) longer than blued steel?
Out of about 25 guns I only have 1 that is stainless and I gave that one to my wife. I wish they'd make an entire gun out of titanium. It would be outrageously expensive but very cool and lightweight.
Neat thing about aluminum-lithium alloys is that they tend to resist fatigue more as they age, and see an age strength gain- unlike normal aluminum and aluminum alloys.
But the deal is, Aluminum-scandium alloys and aluminum-lithium alloys weigh about the same, have about the same strength, and impart roughly the same characteristics into the aluminum when we're talking gun frames.
Then you don't have that nasty explosion hazard with scandium, and it makes sense why they aren't using lithium.
FYI: Blood will also stain/discolor bluing. So if you wonder why that old shotgun or 30-30 has fingerprints in the bluing that's why. Hopefully this will only apply to us hunters
I would prefer SS, but when I'm looking for a used gun, if a nickel or blued one shows up and is otherwise perfect, I will go for it. Right now, I have only one SS gun, my Dan Wesson 715. I have two nickel guns, and the rest are blued.
