An odd thing happened to me over the weekend. Loaded up some ladder loads of 28 Nosler using Hodgdon US 869. I had 6 rounds loaded, first 2 increasing .4gr increments. Last 4 rounds going up in .3gr increments. The goal was to record velocity of each charge weight.

Chronograph was set about 3 - 4 yds from muzzle

First 3 rounds had roughly the same velocity only increasing about 9 fps from my original load. At 3042 fps. That's 1.1gr increase gaining me about 9fps.
The fourth round is where it got squirly. Fourth round jumped to 3315fps. With the next charge up registering 3072 fps.
I know loads will flatline in a node, but didn't know a node could be as much as 1.1 gr. Also that doesn't explain why velocity went down on the very next round fired.
I'm pretty meticulous when I load, so I know charge weight was correct.
Has anybody seen anything like this. This is my first time doing a ladder test. Could muzzle blast have been causing inaccurate readings at that distance?
