Got a letter in the mail from the County Sheriff which contained a reference form for a friend who wished to have her concealed carry permit renewed.

One of the questions was:

Have you ever seen (the above named individual) carrying a concealed weapon?

I answered, thruthfully of course, no.

I was wondering if I had said yes if that would have disqualified her? Also, I was curious about the intent of the question? Any ideas?

Maybe They're Fishing

It might be a fishing expedition to find out if the individual previously carried a concealed weapon BEFORE getting authorized to do so legally.

If she were carrying concealed, you shouldn't have been able to see it, right? :scrutiny:

they jsut asked if you saw

You could have truthfully said no, if it was concealed you wouldn't have seen it even if you knew she was :neener:

Hmph.

Considering that open carry is not unlawful, that we don't labor under that ridiculous Texas thing that asserts that concealment slippage = "brandishing", and that the questions are set by statute, that's a _fascinating question.

What county was it?

"do you have any obligation to even answer? i wouldnt."

I am sure that if I did not complete the entire form that it might have effected her eligibility (somehow) to have the permit renewed.

"Have you ever seen (the above named individual) carrying a concealed weapon?"

To wit, are you a dumbass willing to testify regarding the anticipated denial of a concealed-carry permit?

Sheeeesh...bureaucrats!

If the weapon were concealed, you wouldn't see it. Answer is "No."

If you caught a glimpse of it, it wasn't concealed, so you didn't see her with a concealed weapon. Answer is "No" again.
