Gotcha. Apologies, should I remove the post? Don't want the thread to get shut down, as I think it's a good one...

The NRA is open about what it advocates: the RKBA, period.

The ACLU is much less open and actually quite disingenuous. For instance, the RKBA is not defended by them, despite RKBA being a if not the fundamental liberty.

Also, the ACLU is quite anti-economic liberty. There isn't a welfare program they didn't support & sue on behalf of. Somebody has to pay for all that ACLU-supported largesse. So much for my right to economic privacy and the property I earn.

I view the ACLU as a blight.

Wow, it's amazing how this thread went from a question about how the ACLU protects rights to how religious people oppress everyone, the meanings of the amendments, abortion, and child molestation. Real High Road.

If the aclu is out to protect the rights of the people, they should be in court every time a anti-2a bill is drawn up. You either support them or you dont. That would be like me saying I support the 2a but not the 1a. Even though I think the 1a is abused more times then not. Not only that but how many people has the 1a influenced in the direction of, violence is the way to success? But that dosent make me take a stance against it. I just dont let my kids watch some shows.

i think this is an extremely important string of dialogue. people that support the 2nd ammendment come in all shades. it is VERY elightening to see where others are coming from, and how their other social and political views play into their defense of the 2nd.

Ok, you motivated me to finally join. I have been thinking I should for years. So this morning the ACLU got my $25 and an immediate followup that they were getting only $25 because that is what it costs me to renew to the NRA through my gun club. I'll put their card right next to NRA, CCW (CPL in WA), USAS, and Basic Pistol Instructor Certificate. If enough of us join, they will follow the money. Hopefully their begging for more contributions will not be as tediously anti-conservative as the NRA's is anti-liberal. (Fortunately hope is free) ...and the gunshow is in Puyallup this weekend.

Well said, Ed!

I’ve been a member of both the NRA and the ACLU for years. I hope to influence both organizations to better defend the constitution. The ACLUs position on the 2nd follows SCOTUSs decision in US vs. Miller that the 2nd is a “collective” right instead of an “individual” right. A bad decision and one I hope to see the ACLU discard.

The ACLU/NAMBLA controversy is a tired old straw man that anyone with any intellectual honesty would take the time to look up. The ACLU often holds it's nose and defends the rights of the uncomfortably unacceptable speech of some hideous group so that no one can attack our right to free speech (man, wouldn't Fienstein and Brady just love to be able to shut us down because we're a bunch of gun pervs drooling over gun porn and trying to pull little children into our perverted culture of death:rolleyes: ).

Some folks treat the Constitution and the Bill of Rights like a buffet. Like badly raised kids they pass by some items they can't imagine anyone liking and gorge themselves on the few they like. Not very balanced.
