I've already posted this in the proper General Topics forum but I'm so irritated that I just had to make sure I told my friends on the BP forum.
I just got another request for money from the NRA and included with the request was a genuine NRA Fighting Knife made in China! I generally give the best I can but not this time!

Write LaPierre and tell him you
1) want off his junk mail list, and
2) deplore the offering of items made outside the USA as premiums by an supposedly patriotic American organization.

I haven't received this offer because I wrote and asked to be removed from the 'waste mail' list - and I did not want them wasting my money on slick multicolor fund raising junk mail. He agreed with the requiest but said the solicitations were effective and they needed the money, so they were going to continue. My suggestion to save a little of my money by going to black and white instead of color was not addressed. Good luck.

I quit the AARP for this reason, and the fact that they used my money to promote a political agenda I didn't agree with and had the gall to claim that I did since I was a member. I stayed with the AOPA because they stopped the full color junk mail money requests in favor or email that was just as effective, much cheaper and easier for me to filter out.

I knew I was off base by posting my rant here but who else can you vent to but your friends. I did just what you said and contacted them to take me of their promotion list and then I threw the NRA Fighting Knife, believe me that's what they call it, into my pond. I hope it doesn't poison my bass.

I don`t want a junk knife and I don`t like them useing every bit of the money I give them to send me so much junk mail eaither ..I can`t be helping the cause when my donation is spent on postage back to me . I have to stay a member of the NRA because of the insurance at 2 clubs I enjoy shooting at ..NRA membership a must .Caught between a rock and a hard place .I don`t care for AARP eaither ..who wants to be reminded so much that they are getting old .

I didn't get this mailing either lifer here, and so I don't get any of these offers... Like Sundance I need this NRA to stay active in Buck Skinning events and clubs.

I hate it too when they repeatedly send me reminders to renew my membership. It is not even up until August. They started with the renewal stuff in September I remember.

Well, I don't know anything about the Chineese knife, but what I do know is that I still own my firearms and it's not against the law to do so. At least in Montana. Anyhow I think a good bit of that has to do with the NRA. Personally I think it is a worth while organization, and in spite of the fact that some of their mailings are a pain we need them.

NRA Endowment-life member and proud of it

Sounds like he was expecting an antique Morseth knife.

If every NRA member gave the cost of one premium six-pack of beer to the PVF or the ILA annually there would be no need for Chinese knives or fund drives. BTW: Every fund drive nets the NRA about one million dollars.

Only about 10 percent of NRA members ever contribute to the NRA: Then they whine.

Every member of the NRA contributes, it's called dues. They complane because we send in out dues and in return we get a window sticker and 50lbs of junk mail. They need to do one fund raiser a year. They could probably save a million just by not mailing out oll that crap.

As far as the knife made in China thats pretty crappy in my book. I make it a point to not buy stuff made in China it 's hard but it can be done.

I wish the NRA wasn't run by who it's run by

After getting regular phone calls with a recorded message from Wayne LaPierre, or somebody else with the world is coming to an end as a message, I could hang up, but when they started sending merchandise that I should pay for or send back... I gave up.

There's about (give or take a little) 300 million people in this country and at least fully 85% of those people want all guns outlawed except for the ones desiginated for use by law enforcement and the military.
These people live in cities or in the suburbs or close to a major town or city. The only thing they know about guns is what they hear on the evening news. Someone robbed and murdered someone. A police officer shot and killed someone in the line of duty. The military use's guns to hurt and kill people.
A million dollars. What the hell is a million dollars? Four 60 second commercials on TV that the station will run at 3 o'clock in the morning, hoping that no one will see them?
The NRA is over worked and under staffed, and they're doing a damn fine job. They use 'blanket coverage' mailing programs to try and reach as many people as they can. They don't have the people or the time to research through their computers to see if so and so is already a member, or if member so and so dosen't want a knife because it's not a Casexx made in the USA. The NRA is doing the best they can and instead of bitching and whining and complaining, ya'll need to devote some of your time toward helping them instead of wasting all of your time at the damn range punching holes in paper. Call them up and tell them what area you live in and ask them what you can do to help.
And I don't give a Godd***** who get's mad at me for the thing's I just typed....

haha all statements where very nicely put. My friends but, another thing to look at is the Intial thing you get when you join the NRA which is the Black hat with NRA written in yellow and an american flag on the side of it...... Now why don't you take a look at that tag.... Yea Banglidesh or whatever isn't to american last time i checked

I'll write my last post on the subject because it is important to me that my friends on this forum know where I'm coming from. I've been a member of the NRA for 30 years and have always given more than just my dues to show my appreciation for what the NRA stands for and does. This I have done and will continue to do so without the need of foreign made trinkets to make me want to do so.
Last year I bought a new flag for my flag pole and as I unfurled it the manufacture tag caught my eye. It was made in Mexico. I immediately took it back and complained to the manager of the hardware store where I bought it. I also wrote the parent company.
Alsqr, If they'd sent me a Morseth knife I would have sent it back instead of throwing it into my lake.
G of the C. There is a difference between whinning and pissed. I'm pissed. If I were whinning my actions would have stopped here. I'm pissed, so I've emailed the NRA with my concerns.
Enough said, rant over. Let's get back to muzzleloading.

I don`t know maybe some don`t understand how much junk mail I really get ..it`s unreal ..with the cost of stamps , paper and not to mention printing .....every dime they get in membership dues goes back into sending me all this stuff I don`t want ..It`s depressing to me , yes I beleive in what they do and stand for ..no problem there ..BUT I would feel more like I helped them out more if they would quit wasteing my money on ME . They aren`t sending this stuff to non members ( where it needs to go ) ...they send it to me ...MR. Member ..I started joining the NRA back when it was formed ..I`ve fallen off a year or two here and there and can tell ya ....the only way to stop the junk mail ..is to fall off , don`t join ...then it stops ..I had to buy the wife a NRA membership so she could compete in shooting events at our local clubs ...I warned them when I signed her up as a member ( which by the way I think they should have a family membership ...they don`t ) ...they better not dubble send us junk mail ..they said they wouldn`t ...we`ll see . Every has their own way of thinking , I doubt anyone will get upset , to hear the experience of others on this matter ...maybe its good to vent ..I did my venting to the NRA when I signed the wife up ...lets hope it did some good .

Gentleman of Charcoal

The NRA is doing the best they can and instead of bitching and whining and complaining, ya'll need to devote some of your time toward helping them instead of wasting all of your time at the damn range punching holes in paper. Call them up and tell them what area you live in and ask them what you can do to help.

Because some of us refuse to be cowed by fear mongering and taken advantage of by the NRA's way of doing business is the only way that it may be possible to end that way of doing business. They certainly haven't gotten the message yet. Maybe because of those like yourself that shout anybody down that objects.

Once in a while as a Lifer, I still send cash, and other times send in real sterling Trade Silver circa 1750-1840 that i make as museum quality repro's.

i have no idea what they do with that silver, but it is as real as can be made in solid sterling.. I feel it is my duty to pester the NRA with really valuable items.

I have no use for baseball hats, stickers, chinese knives  that can probably be tied in a knot! LOL Or any other promotional crap.

I admire anyone who tries to avoid buy items from China. I do, but find it is very hard. More times than not when I thought I was, later i would find he items was Chinese and repacked to look as if it wasn't.

I don't understand how the USA buys from Communist Red China at all.

I`ve got an idea ..I`ll save all the junk mail for a year , then take it to a recycle center sell it and send the money back to the NRA ,,might even save a tree that way . It`ll take a BIG box .

If you ask them they will stop sending it to you. Really. No kidding, they really will stop.

Save yourself the aggravation and save them the money, write them an email and tell them to stop sending it. It's very simple and it rreally works. If you haven't done that you have no right to complain.

I don't get any mailings from them since i became a lifer..

If I did, about now I might build a paper log roller and roll up logs for the wood stove.

I quit the NRA because of differences in beliefs, not because of the junk mail, though that is annoying. If someone could show me in a solid, definitive way that they have done some good, that I'd be gun-less without them, I'd rejoin. One thing I've learned is that you cannot change anyone's minds towards guns, religion, politics, sports, etc. and those that are pro-gun are that way by nature, not because of an organization. I still vote pro-gun and I don't need the NRA guiding me. In fact, when I argue with anti-gunners, I find that I have a more solid footing when I can say, "I am not an NRA member."
Having said all that, I find myself leaning back towards the NRA because of some things that LaPierre has said that I agree with.

NRA

Hey there:
Here is my fisrt and last word on the NRA. I am a Patron member. Signed my son up as Endowment member. Will sign my grand children up also.
They are THE ONLY organization that the public knows and cares about in the fight for the 2nd amd. Some of the others are good too . But the general public knows little or nothing of them and they do not carry the political bang that the NRA does. Some junk mail ? Thats not much of a reason to put down the NRA. File 13 still works here. Donate if and when you can.
We can always find what we Think are problems with their way of doing things . But They do know how to bring in $$$$$$. Most of the time the people I hear complain the most support the least. Your cell phone company sends you more junk mail then the NRA does.

Thank you Wildfire. I take back every bad thought I have ever thought about you. Not that I have really ever thought any bad thought's about you but if I had ever really thought any bad thought's about you then the post you just posted here would have made me really take back all of the bad thought's I would have ever thought about you!!....
